Lo lacrime del mare, the Tears of the Sea, arguably the most beautiful set of sapphire demiparure to exist. They were currently on display in the National Gallery but their new home in Baise’s collection was all ready. With his invitation to the opening gala, he was ready to take them to his new home.
“Young master, your suit.”
“Thank you Yuto, I’ll be back.”
“Be careful young master.”
“Aren’t I always? Actually don’t answer that.”
With his suit and a charming smile, Baise made this way to the gala as millionaire Nick Blaze, President of Sundance Group and a lover of art and history.
“Thank you for the ride Morgan, you don’t need to pick me up.”
“Have a nice night young master-boya.”
Baise straightened his jacket as he checked out the outside security. There were cameras and guards everywhere and from what he could see, two, three at most, blind spots. As he made his way inside, he continued to survey the area while chatting with some clients.
“Nick Blaze, it’s been too long. Alzono has missed you.” Alzono pulled Baise into a hug bear hug which almost made him spill his drink.
“Alzono, how have you been doing? Did the jewels caught your eye or was it the women?”
“You know Alzono came here for the senoritas. What about you? If you ever have job you need help with,” he suggest with a wink.
“I’ll keep that in mind. What do you know about tonight’s masterpiece?”
“That it’s probably worth a few million. Alzono believes that it will make someone very happy. It was nice catching up.” Alzono held out his hand for a handshake which Baise accepted before he made his way to the bathroom.
Once he confirmed that the stall of safe from any sort of bugs, Baise opened the note that Alzono slipped into his hand.
Lane is in charge of security. There’re 539 officers. Once the viewing of the set is over, it’ll be locked up in an Iron Maiden Class safe with the usual lasers guarding it. Since Lane’s in charge, it’ll probably be held in a wide open space with high ceilings and raised to a third of the room’s height. She’s also taking personal watch of this set so good luck.
Flushing the note down the toilet, Baise took the time to think. The notorious Lane was in charge of the security meaning it’ll be one of the most secured items to exist and the fact that she was personally guarding it made it that much harder.
Up for the challenge, Baise returned to the party and waited until he could finally lay his eyes on the demiparure. While he was admiring the set, a beautiful woman with black hair and grey eyes appeared next to him.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” She asked.
“They’re beauty is nothing compared to yours. They would look much more beautiful on you,” he said, kissing the back of her hand. “Nick Blaze and who may you be?”
“It’ll tell you when you tell me your real name.” She removed her hand out of his grip and disappeared into the crowd.
When the dinner service started, the guests were ushered into the banquet hall and Baise used it as his opportunity to begin the heist. As he removed himself from the crowd, he saw the infamous Lane giving out commands.
“Well then, it’s time for work,” Baise said to himself as the finished changing into a guard uniform.
Making sure the room where the knocked out guard was locked, Baise joined the guards who were stationed closest to the safe. Taking a peek inside, Baise saw that the security was just as Alzono predicted only missing Lane who was going over last minute preparations.
So the only way is up. No windows so I guess I need to scale the walls. Well it’s definitely Lane’s work. Why couldn’t make something that’s easier to deal with? Oh well time to start.
Baise found himself in a rather uncomfortable position. He was on the pedestal with the safe and he began cracking it when Lane arrived to guard making him too scared to even breathe. Taking a temporary break, Baise positioned himself in such that Lane couldn’t see him but he could see her. He really needed to hurry since it wouldn’t take long for the guards to wonder by Lane wasn’t showing up in the security feed.
“-ne, Captain Lane,” a voice over the walkie-talkie said, “There’s been a breach in Ward 9. I repeat, there’s been a breach in Ward 9. Someone will come takeover your post, please come assist ASAP.”
“Captain Lane, I’m here to replace you.” A female guard came running in with her head low.
Lane’s footsteps faded into the distance and when the coast was clear, the female guard lowered the pedestal back down to ground level. Realising what was going on, Baise lowered the hat on his head and formulated a new plan.
“Under whose command did you lower the pedestal on?” Baise asked in a low voice.
“Under whose command did you follow to be allowed on the pedestal Nick Blaze or should I say Baise or do you prefer Red Sash?”
Temporarily frozen in shock, Baise noticed a strand of red hair under the black wig and when he made eye contact with those grey eyes, he knew who he was dealing with. Returning to his usual calm demeanor, he said, “So you knew who I was this whole time? Even when you spoke to me earlier? Why are you here Red Hair?”
“Same reason as you are and I’m in a rush so if you’d be kind enough to let me take over. I mean this is my heist after all.”
“Au contraire, I believe I was first. I’m almost done with the last-”
In the distance footsteps and mumbling could be heard, “Lane yells at me for not showing up on time. I was there the whole time, she just never noticed me. Why would there be 539 officers, of course it’d be 540. She just didn’t notice me cause of stupid Maes and I’m the one that gets yelled at. Now I’m being forced all the way down here from the East Wing because of that stupid security breach. Oh where’re the lights? How can I guard this stupid thing in the dark? Ouch- oh found it.”
The two thieves looked at each other in shock. In the distance the sound of the light switch being flipped on could be heard. With no time to finish cracking the safe and escaping, the two abandoned the job and hid in the first place they saw, a closet.
“It’s a bit squished, could you move your arm?”
“Shut up, he could hear us.”
“But your arm is making me very uncomfortable.”
“I’ll move my arm if it means you’ll allow me to finish my job.”
“It’s my heist not yours. Plus what would you do with the necklace and earring set? Put it on display in a secret basement for yourself to see?”
“No. What would you do with them? It’s not like you can wear them out in public?”
“Shush,” she said, pressing her hand against his mouth. Nearby footsteps and muttering could be heard approaching then leaving the closet.
“Looks like we’ll be here for a while Red Hair.”
“Lovely.”
When Baise awoke from his unscheduled nap, it was already afternoon of the following day. Sore from the uncomfortable position he fell asleep in, he quickly slapped himself awake to find a note fall from his jacket down to the floor. When he picked it up, in a beautiful handwriting it read:
Thanks for the jewels. The Flares of the Sun is what I’m headed for next. See you there <3 - RH
With a shocked laugh, Baise ripped the note along the kiss mark and quietly made his way out of the gallery. After calling Morgan to pick him up, he sent Yuto to find out where the Flares of the Sun was currently being held. There was no way he’d lose to the same person twice.
