The sounds of rain could be heard from inside the bookstore. Pitter patter, pitter patter. Outside, the citizens on the streets rushed to find shelter while inside there was one customer who walked to its pace. Her grey eyes scanned the books and she dragged her finger along the spines. She came to find a book that her senior recommended but all she remembered was the title and the fact that it was a fantasy novel.
As she pulled out a book to check the cover, through the gap in the shelf, she saw found the book she was looking for. She put the book back and walked towards the other side of the bookshelf to the display. She reached for the last novel only to have part of her hand overlap with another.
“Sorry.” They both said but did not retract their hand.
“Since it’s the last copy do you want to share it?” He asked.
“How?” Her grip of the red book and his hand tightened.
“I’ll pay for this and you get two drinks at the coffee shop?” He said with a charming smile.
“How will I know you won’t run off with the last copy? I don’t even know your name.” She said, playing along.
“I’m Baise and you can trust me on this.”
“I don’t know Baise, I think I’ll have to come with you to the cash but I will get the drinks if you find a seat.”
“Deal only if you tell me what your name is.”
She thought about it for a while before she stuck out her hand for a handshake and said, “I’m Tori.”
