(Raven)
Note: The story will start switching between Luka's and Raven's POV once they meet.
I woke to the sound of gunshots.
What a wonderful way to wake up, I grumbled to myself. The gunshots got clearer and closer to the little store I had slept in.
I quickly gathered my things and unsheathed my machete. I silently crept to the shattered window in front of the store.
Hundreds of blanks were marching through the streets, armed and ready. their heads turned from side to side, their eyes searching and eerie.
I ducked back down, crawling between the isles.
How did they find me so fast?
A bang at the front of the store nearly made my heart jump out of my chest. I pressed myself closer to the shelf.
Heavy boots scraped the ground, making me shiver. The sound paused for a moment, just at the beginning of the isle I was hiding in. I pressed my palms deeper into the ground and nearly yelped. Shards of broken glass had wedged its self into my hand, tearing my skin. I clutched my hand to my chest in pain.
I held my breath, listening for the sounds again. Whoever it was had turned around and left the store. I sighed in relief, picking myself off the ground. I gathered up my backpack off the ground, slinging it around my shoulders.
Suddenly hands covered my mouth and grabbed my wrist. I scream, but the sounds are muffled me the palm covering my mouth. I twist my head to look at my attacker.
The person holding me is a tall brown-haired guy with green eyes. He's muscular, with a strong jawline. He has a strong neck and defined cheekbones.
I bite his hand and slide my knives out of my pockets.
"Dude what the heck!" he whispers shouts, clutching his hand.
I hiss at him.
"You were the one grabbing me from behind," I snarled, aiming a knife at his heart.
He raised his hands in a defensive position.
"Whoa there, I was just passing by," He stepped back. I lowered my knives just a bit, still keeping them trained on him. "like a cat," He muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing," He said shaking his head.
"What do you want?" I growled. The guy was wearing ripped jeans and a thin jacket with a pair of combat boots.
"Nothing just wanted to say hi," He said, " the nearby towns have been deserted for days,"
"The government is probably clearing them out for the first wave," I slide my knives back into their pockets, seeing as this guy isn't a threat. "They've been setting up traps all throughout the city,"
"How do you know so much?" He asked.
"Lucky guess," I grab my backpack, replacing it on my shoulder. It wasn't the truth though.
"Do y' have a camp?" He asked, picking up my bat that I had dropped.
"Nope," I string an arrow on my bow, aiming for the spire again.
"What are you doing?" He asked. I grumbled internally at all his questions.
"Just watch," I train my arrow on the shiny metal, releasing it with a perfect shot. The blanks all fall to the ground, dead.
"How did you do that?" He sounds amazed.
"A large number of blanks can't be individual like small groups can, so they use a catalyst to control them. If the catalyst dies, so do the others connected,"
He's gaping at me now.
"I'm starting to wonder if you worked with the government," He says.
I laugh at that.
"If only you had known," I mutter, taking my bat from him.
"I'm Luka Tristen, what's your name mister masked man?" He asked.
I forgot i had been wearing my mask.
"Raven Snow," I say, turning to face him.
"Your name is so pretty!"
The guy is like a fucking puppy, except for the fact that he's 6'1.
"That's a new one, Where ya headed?"
"Back to camp, not far from here. Wanna join me? You could restock and take a breather there," Luka says with an eager smile.
"Sure, why not," I Whistle suddenly, making Luka jump.
Juniper comes through the window and lands on my shoulder.
"Juniper, this is Luka. Luka this is juniper," I gesture between them.
Luka's eyes are wide.
"What is he?" He asked.
"Don't really know, I'm guessing some kind of hybrid." I pet Juni lovingly. Juniper leans into my touch, purring delightedly.
"Did he just purr?"
"Yeah?" I raised an eyebrow at him. This guy is weird.
"Birds shouldn't be able to do that," He gestures at Juni wildly.
"Oh, guess he's special then. Are you coming or not?" I'm already halfway ou the shattered window.
"Your hand is bleeding,"
"Fuck, forgot about that," I hiss in pain. The cuts are deeper now because of my neglect.
"I have some bandages," He offers, already slipping his backpack off his shoulders.
I reach out my hand for him.
He bandages it gently as a doctor would to a dear patient. His fingers are soft. His touch strangely makes me long for more.
"You a nurse or something?" I asked him. He shook his head.
"I just have basic first aid training," Luka smiles sheepishly. Which is kinda cute.
"Your good at it," I reach up at my ponytail, untying it. My hair was pretty long now, it reaching past my thighs. I put it up again in a messy bun, finishing it off with my one and only hair tie.
I notice him staring at me.
"What?"
"Nothing," He follows me out the window.
We begin our journey back to his camp.
