I woke up on the ground. Nice. I looked around. Laura’s room wasn’t anything special, but we had spent some good times there. It still looked the same from when we were kids, so everything -I mean everything- was pink. I looked over to her bed, she slept like a princess, all thrown around. Good, at least she slept well after last night. I got up, and immediately saw my reflection on a mirror. I was terrific, nothing better for beauty then a night on the floor with the clothes you went to a party the night before.
While I put my hair up in a unintentionally messy bun, I remembered last night. Gosh, I had no idea what that guy did, but it must’ve not been small, or Laura wouldn’t have been so shocked. She was very strong - in mind, I mean, she couldn’t even lift a chair. The moment she came to me was like a scene on repeat in my head. I felt worse and worse every single time that went on. It made me sadder for my friend and very mad at that boy. Oh, he was going to pay for whatever s*** he did.
Then that girl came up in my mind, oh my, I had forgotten that episode. No need for that either, I had to be one hundred percent there for Laura. But I simply needed some new clothes, so I had to take one of the thousands of oversized shirts Laura had and put it on. I giggled when I saw the one I took, it was stamped with a cat wearing the United States revolutionary clothes and written : “pardon me, are you aaron purr, sir?”.
After a quick visit to the bathroom, I slowly and very quietly left the bedroom. I closed the door right behind me. Halfway downstairs I realized I forgot my uncharged phone on Laura’s room. Okay, fine, I would have to talk to her parents either way.
I had been in that house so many times, I knew it like my own. I went straight to the kitchen, to get some water and probably be fed by this amazing family. And just as I thought, Laura’s dad was making crepes, he always did it when I was there. That smell was so familiar- and so delicious.
“Good morning” I said, while entering the room. Laura’s mom and brother were sitting at the table. He was a tad surprised, my bet was no one told him I was there.
“Morning.” Laura’s mom was the sweetest- Sit down darling, eat something.
“Thanks, it smells delicious.” I responded while sitting on the nearest chair.
“Is Laura still sleeping? It’s like 11 am.” asked Laura’s brother. And all I could do was respond:
“I think she needed it after last night.” he had that “what-the-hell-is-going-on” look on his face, I guess no one told him then.
“Is she okay?” Laura’s mom looked worried, I hated to see them like this.
“I hope so, I don’t actually know. But at least she slept alright.”
“Good.”
The room just dropped silent. Emotions accumulating. No one would break it, there was no way to. Until Laura walked in.
“Morning” she said. That did it, she didn’t want to mention it, we wouldn’t be the ones to bring it back. And it was left unsaid till the end of the day. I stayed there the whole Saturday at their house. I was practically part of the family after all this time. I left while the sun was setting down.
I got home and slept -well, must I say- but I was still worried about Laura, I wondered if I could talk to Lara about it. Lara was our other best friend, she was very sweet and everything, but what mattered to me most in that specific situation was: she gave the best advice. It wasn’t from experience that she talked, believe me, she didn’t do basically nothing but study and play videogames all day. Still, somehow, she could understand every single thing we got ourselves into, and telling her would definitely help with this. And it couldn’t do any harm, could it? I mean, she was one of Laura’s best friends, she had the right to know something happened to her.
So I did it, I picked up my phone right before falling asleep like a rock, and texted Lara:
“hey, can we talk?”
