Blake shows up to Dewi’s photo shoot with a picnic basket. This, in and of itself, is not too odd. They both enjoy surprising the other at work when they can, usually with some kind of packed lunch they can share. The fact that a large part of the basket is filled with cookies is also not very out of character. Blake tends to spoil Dewi, especially after he learned how much all Dew’s past relationships would use his kind nature against him without ever giving back.
The Disney theme for the meal is a nice touch that causes him to smile. His boyfriend knows him so well. Dewi can’t remember what the occasion is, or maybe it's ‘just because’, but he thanks whatever forces out there brought Blake into his life. It isn’t until he takes out a cookie shaped like Cinderella’s slipper that he notices the paper at the bottom of the basket.
He removes it to find that it is a card. More specifically, it’s a beautifully crafted invitation. Dewi reads it over once, twice, before launching himself at Blake. “Yes! Thank you! I don’t even know what to say… You’re amazing!” Blake is obviously shocked for a moment before he finally relaxes. He smiles warmly as they finish eating before Dewi has to get back to work.
The next day, Blake is nervously fidgeting in front of the mirror. This was a good idea, right? Dewi had seemed excited about it, but Blake doesn’t know if he can meet his expectations. What if…? No, he already told Dewi he would do it, so there’s no way he can back out now.
He looks at the outfits he has lined up before turning back to the mirror. He’d picked this one to start out for two reasons. First it is one of the simplest: white shirt, blue pants, a red cloth belt, and tall black boots. Second, Blake may or may not have found out about Dewi’s childhood crush on Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid. He just hopes starting with this cosplay will boost his confidence enough to go through the others as well.
When he finally walks out, Dewi is waiting like he’s going to meet a real live Disney princess. The giddy energy is infectious and Blake finds himself grinning like a kid on Christmas as well. “So… Does it live up to the anticipation?” There is a nervousness behind his words. He really hopes Dewi likes it.
“It exceeds it. I believe you’ll look breathtaking in almost anything.”
“Well, I have like a dozen more outfits to try in my room. And, as promised, if you have anything else you want to see me in, I’m yours to dress up for the day.” Forget being a child on Christmas, Dewi is like a kid in a candy store. There’s excitement mixed with the indecision of there being so many choices. He seems to have short circuited with a goofy smile on his face as he stares at Blake. After Blake finally snaps him out of it, they spend the whole day dressing up Blake in different Disney character cosplays. Dewi even joins in with some of his own cosplays. They end up having so much fun, Blake doesn’t remember what he was worried about.
Even months later, the invite has a place of honor on Dewi’s bulletin board.
‘To my dearest Prince Charming,
Would you do me the honor of joining me tomorrow in picking out some cosplays for the upcoming DisneyCon? As the one with fashion experience, feel free to put together some of your own recommendations (or just anything you want to see me in). Our only restraint is how many hours there are in the day.’
The stubs for the two DisneyCon tickets that had come with the card are now stapled below the writing.
