It was to be their first Valentines Day as a couple. But even more important than that, Luce’s birthday is coming up a few days later. Sato wants to go all out. At the same time he knows his boyfriend well enough to know how much he appreciates the personal touches of gifts. That’s how he comes up with a crazy plan.
Luce wakes up on the 14th of February a little disappointed to not be able to find Sato anywhere. He hadn’t expected much, but still… it’s Valentine’s Day. Even though Shi-shi sometimes struggles with the more emotion driven part of their relationship, the day is about celebrating love. Luce is almost glad when his boss calls him in to cover a coworker’s shift. At least his coworker will be able to spend the holiday with their significant other.
As he pulls into the parking lot, he takes stock of whose vehicles are present. Everyone who’s scheduled seems to be accounted for… Luce kind of wishes he had asked whose shift he was covering. Maybe it’s one of the newer staff?
When he walks in, the hostess stops him from going into the back to clock in. Instead she ushers him to one of the private party rooms customers need a reservation for. The room is decorated like a romance themed birthday party with red and white streamers and heart-shaped balloons everywhere. There’s a long table filled with party snacks and a cake. What surprises Luce most, though, is the center of the room.
Sato is standing by a small table that has two meals set out on it. Food that he knows isn’t on the restaurant's menu and he can tell is homemade. “Do… do you like it? Your birthday party is in an hour. I figure if we had it here, your coworkers that are working could come join during their breaks…” Truthfully, Luce is in awe, but feels like he’s still missing something. If it’s his surprise party, why is he here before the guests? As if reading his mind, Sato continues. “I thought you might want to eat some real food before the party so I made us some lunch. Don’t worry, I got permission from your boss to bring it in here when I reserved the room. I hope it tastes okay... I had to create a kitchen to make it in so as to not ruin the surprise and it was a little weird cooking somewhere different.” Luce doesn’t remember moving, but he’s suddenly right next to his boyfriend.
“I love it, Shi-shi. Almost as much as I love you.” He gives him a quick peck on the cheek before sitting down to enjoy the food Shi-shi made for him. He smiles fondly as they eat. Satoshi will always be the sweetest person in Luce’s eyes. Every time he thinks he can’t fall any more for the intellect, Shi-shi does something to prove him wrong.
It is the best Valentine’s Day ever in his memory. Still, Luci hopes to be able do something for his boyfriend next year that will top it.
