Ryan found Kitty a few blocks from his house, sitting on the grass with a little girl. He immediately ran up to them. Relief loosening the knot in his stomach, as he almost forgot that he'd just been the victim of a break-in.
“Kitty!” he yelled happily.
The girl stood up and asked him: “is this your cat sir?”
“Yes! Ryan said, I thought he was lost, but you’ve found him!”
Ryan picked up the cat, and kissed his little head. “Kitty there you are! I thought I lost you! I was so worried!”
“His name is Nao”, the girl said.
Ryan looked at her blankly. “You named him Nao?”
“No,” she said. “Nao is his name, he told me so.”
“Of course he did. Well I’m gonna take Nao home now, is that okay?” Ryan smiled at the little girl. Kids and their imaginations... Well, at least she had been good to Kitty.
“Yes that is ok. Goodbye Nao.” The girl said as she winked at the cat.
Ryan walked home holding Kitty tightly. “I was so worried about you, there was a guy in my house and he played guitar in my living room and then attacked a car with my baseball bat. It’s so weird! And I couldn’t find you anywhere! I was so nervous that you were stolen, or that you ran away because of this morning…”
Ryan blushed as he thought of it. The cat looked him in the eye and pressed his head to Ryan’s face as he purred softly.
“Thank you Kitty, I needed that,” said Ryan. He held the cat for the rest of the way home. It purred in his arms and made him feel completely at ease.
“As long as I have you, I don’t need much else.” Ryan said, and was silent for the rest of the walk, realising his Kitty did mean the world to him.
As they came back inside, Ryan fed his cat a few of the chicken hearts he had brought, and made himself a sandwich.
After that, he started cleaning the living room. Kitty ran away into the bedroom. Which was expected, since he, like most cats, hated the vacuum cleaner. When he finished with the living room, he did the bathroom and the bedroom, obviously changing the bedsheets.
He looked at Kitty guiltily from the corner of his eye when confronted with the situation of the current sheets. The cat was washing himself.
“Yep, you’re embarrassed too”. Ryan laughed.
Ryan spent more than two hours cleaning, but it was worth it. The apartment looked as if it came right out of a magazine. He carefully placed the scented candles as a finishing touch and dropped down on the couch. Done working, time to play.
He turned on his X-box, took the controller and started shooting Nazi’s with Kitty lying by his side until he was hungry. He made dinner for two, as usual and had a happy dinner with his cat.
Right, time to get ready, Ryan thought. As he washed the dishes he thought about what he should say to Lilah. He passed some ideas through his mind until realising he’d wing it anyway. Getting the girl would not be the problem, it never was. Keeping her was going to be the real challenge, and he didn’t have to worry about that tonight.
After a shower and a shave Ryan put his favourite shirt on, kissed Kitty on the head and went out.
Party people here I come!
