Episode 17 - The city fight
My White Sorceress staff is ready, held tightly in my paws. I just focus on protecting the city; let the Furless shoot the Dragon down from the skies and kill it.
As the White Sorceress, this is my duty.
“Skjold nu,”
She is spoken in her old language again, only spoken when her Cat-cats' souls are behind her. Perhaps, to fight, she is forced to cast her soul away. But… I have the feeling she’s asking me to do something. Do something now. It’s too late. The Dragon is here, yellow magic turning into a billowing fire from behind deadly fangs. Catmen run in a panic as the flames hit a building, racing passed it up the road to the Harbor in hopes of finding safety. The lamps’ colours shift erratically, a bright array of shades and hues alerting us to run - or to fight. I can feel the gust created by the Dragon’s huge wings, keeping it in place in the air as reptilian eyes shift across the city.
“Skjold nu!”
As another arrow from her bow flies past the Dragon, I take her call to action and raise my staff. I have time now… time to make a Shield big enough to cover the whole town. I raise my staff to the sky and take a deep breath, pouring every fibre of my will into my magic and letting it flow into the staff.
“Shielding Shield!”
Glowing, a white pearl floats up and surrounds us. Seeing it, the Dragon aims at us, Shield disappearing as the fire in its throat dies down.
“Dumme kat, skjold hele byen!”
The Furless’ tone suggestions she is trying to tell me I’m stupid… maybe she’s right, that only protected us and not the city.
Her Cat-cat is back again to translate and guide me.
"Remember the power of song"
Like the Milk-bar keeper, they want me to sing. I ignited my Sorceress Feeling. In my heart, I can feel purr intent: the protection of this city.
Following my Sorceress Feeling, I begin to dance with a twirl, Staff swinging in great arcs and circles while I sing the spell:
“I tell I tell Add me in my spell. I have to do this, we must resist.
I tell I tell, Add me in my spell. The way of the Catmen; The Magic of ten.
I tell I tell, Add me in my spell. The city shall stand, We fight with paw and hand.”
I can feel the Staff buzzing with power in my paw. I shoot it up into the air, with the final word of the spell.
“Protection Shield!”
White bolts fly from the top of the staff, building around me and waiting for my command. I have enough! I tighten my grip, slamming the staff down to the ground. Bolts dash left, right, up - everywhere. And, soon, they are in place about the city. The Dragon, noticing this, opens its deadly jaws to build the fire in its throat. I have to hurry.
An arrow flies out from beside me, hitting the Dragon and leaving a shimmering string of Blue Magic between the creature and the bow. Alarmed, the Dragon cries out and tries to use its magic on the string, fire soaring to the ground and into houses in its panic.
Trolling from my shoulder jumps up and down while he keeps saying…
“Shielding Shield!”
“Shielding Shield!”
I trust my little friend as this is the spell to make the shield.
“Shielding Shield!” I yell higher than a clock frog waking a city.
While the Furless keeps the Dragon distracted, a huge bolt shoots up, hitting one of my white bolts and forming a small piece of shield. Bolt after bolt soon has a shield enveloping the whole city. But the Furless’ arrows are no longer working, the Dragon batting them away aggressively. They aren’t strong enough. What can I do? What magic? What elixir? Her Blue Magic was not enough - so mine won’t be either. My White Magic cannot harm it without sacrificing the city… All that is left is Green Magic. Powerful Wind Magic could push it away from the Catmen as they sprint to safety. I raise my paws upwards, preparing to enchant the spell.
“It won’t work. Throw rocks at it!”
That voice… It’s the Evil Red Sorcerer!
“You! Why are you attacking the city?”
“I’m not. The Dragon is.”
He steps closer to a rock by his feet.
“Wind!”
I watch as it launches at the Dragon, hitting it.
"But is the Dragon not yours to command?"
"That power I do not have."
Now I am confused…
"So you are here to help?"
I have to question him out who knows what he is up to.
The Cat-cat is coming running and stands in front of us all.
"Don't kill it, it is the soul of the Dragon we need to kill."
Fire blows out from the Dragon’s maw, spreading across the shield and blocking out all view of the outside world. The Furless look upon the Red Sorcerer.
“It is not her for at ødelægge the city, den er på vej til the Wing Wolves?”
“Is that right?" he answered, he also speaks the old language, but I can hear the Furless, being better at the Mijow language.
"If I take it down The Wing Wolves’ only hope will be gone."
“It has også den rigtige Black Scroll.”
"Ya I know, that is way I am free. Only you can catch it before it flies away again." He says, head turning slightly to the Cat-cats. I look between the two, confused. Was it the Cat-cat he spoke to? But then my attention is grabbed by feminine shouts for help nearby. The four Cat-females and the Wolfmale! A hole in the shield, created by the Dragon, is letting flames flow down upon the group. My elixir has been put to good use, but the small shield it created won’t last long.
Save the four cats, not the Furless…
The Sorcerer says Wind Magic won’t work…
But maybe the water flowing from that fountain?
“Aguamenti!”
Green pearls fly out from my paws, caught in the breeze of wind also flowing from them. Like a tornado, the pearls move in circles around the fountain. I have never tried this magic on such a large scale before. I’ve only ever used it to water my flowers… I hope the Furless knows what she is doing. Maybe she has seen even farther into the future… I glance at her, still trying to shoot the Dragon. Now, Red Magic arrows form on the bow, the Sorcerer holding his staff towards her. Is he… truly Evil?
With a swing of my paws I cast the pearls, and water, right up at the Dragon. Its fire is extinguished, causing momentary confusion. Almost instantly, the Furless’ arrow hits the Dragon, a string of Red Magic attaching it to her. The Evil Sorcerer then shoots the Cat-cats with the word…
"Freeing"
It disappears and becomes a soul-ghost behind the Furless…
"Now you can be the one you have to be, my Princess."
The Sorcerer still speaks to the Cat-cat. I think now that it is a Cat-cat soul of the Furless.
Blue sparks in the air are all that remains of the explosion the shot caused between the soul and the Furless. Though the Dragon can no longer get away from the arrow, my shield has faded away.
“Run!” I shout, helping the Wingless Wolf and his company from the ground and pointing to the rich road in the city. They’re safe for now. I have made the future save for them, they will not have to die in the fire. I think. I freeze when I hear Trolling above me; spin around in shock. He’s flying over me… with my Blue Ebony? Subconsciously my paw inches down to my belt. Trolling has my whistle. A flash of blue lightning from Ebony's mouth has it flying through sparks and appearing on the other side of the Dragon. Though it is not dead, the Dragon has taken damage. A strange language falls from its mouth… the same old language as the Furless?
The Dragon looks down to the Furless…
“Du har måske vundet denne kamp! Men hvis du er denne Dragons mother, skal du kunne redde the Wing Wolves"
Weakly, the Dragon takes higher to the sky, dragging the Furless along with it. She swings behind the Dragon as it nears the top of 'the Mountain of Wings Wolves'.
No one is supposed to be capable of flying up there? I looked to where she had been standing. The Cat-cats soul is still here. With a smile, it disappears. The Red Sorcerer turns to me then looks up to the side, where little white pearls shimmer in the air. Saying to me…
“I hope you know what you’re doing.”
And then, the pearls disappear back to my staff… he looks back to me.
“You’ve changed the past. Before, they had no shield. The four females died. But now, you have saved them. You truly are a Princess Meow.”
That is purrfect I have changed something I never have explored. I am then surprised to see him bow to me. I continue to stare at the Sorcerer even as Trolling flies down on the Ebony, landing in front of us. I cannot figure this Sorcerer out. Is he evil or not? But then Trolling flies to him.
“I’m a good helper.”
“Indeed you are.” He says to Trolling before turning to me once again.
“I’m sorry about this, but I have to do it. I've been told we’ll use the power at the end.”
Then he pointed the staff to the air, shouting…
"Wing Wolf give you blood to drink,
And grant great me white power... to link.”
From his staff, a red fog, like that of my White Curse Magic, flows and surrounds me. A swing of his staff that looks like the big Red Curse spell… he’s trying to kill me again. Unable to escape, I hit the ground. My eyes are blurry, powerless to do anything. I see my inner cat-cat soul that controls my Sorceress feelings are in pain. I hear my white magic flowing out from me and directly to the Sorcerer staff. The voice is in an evil mood…
"Thanks"
The Sorcerer is gone when I open my eyes again, still feel I have a broken heart, if it is me that shall have a purrheart, I need to fix it first. I begin to rise myself, taking my staff from the ground. The Sorcerer is gone, no sign of him. I’m afraid that I might not be able to control my magic properly now. Then Trolling shoots up into the air, my Catmen reflexes letting my paws shoot out to catch him.
"I am a good helper"
What has he done now? Did he help the Sorcerer or me? As I don't know what he has done I have to continue in the good moments…
“You’re a good helper.”
Trolling smiles from ear to ear. Where he rests in my paws. I stand, looking around and seeing more and more Catmen emerging from their hiding places to stand around us. Perhaps… I should say something.
“All of you who are in this city, hear me out! I do not know who is evil in this situation, but I can tell you this: I am the White Princess Meow of Obbisia, and I pledge to put an end to all magic used for evil! I believe that this means putting an end to the Red Sorcerer and the big Dragon’s control of their respective Magics.”
Everyone is silent.
But not Trolling…
"I have called them to you"
In the inner circle of a ring of Catmen, I see seven female ghosts. The Catmen standing nearby takes a step back, whispering.
“Is that the power of the Princess?”
“I think those are all of the world’s Princesses.”
I recognise their faces. They truly are the Princesses of Obbisia. Coming closer and closer, they soon come so close that we are touching. One by one they walk through me; inside me. Pain lances through my body. Agony runs up and down me, coursing through my very blood. But, the pain leaves my body as magic is expelled from it as a powerful gust of wind, knocking back the circle of people. I can feel the Princesses inside me.
“We’ve chosen you as our new High Princess. You have long proven that you are the most suitable to take the position of our fallen Princess. We shall guide you. And, while there is no King to rule, you shall take control while a new King is found.”
I take a deep breath as their words fill my head.
“It is with great sorrow that I inform you of two deaths. The King and the High Princess. I have been given the role of High Princess now and shall rule until a new King is found to take over.”
And, in very little time, they have all knelt before me, heads bowed in respect. Joy races through my heart as they stand and shout.
"Ejawas!"
"Ejawas!"
As they praise me, Trolling taps my paw curiously.
"What are they saying, my Meow?"
"It’s a special Cat-word meaning ‘We all hail the new one’"
"Ejawas!"
"Ejawas!"
I walk from the square, out towards the rich road in search of the four females.
I can still hear them chanting for me. Maybe we don’t need a King… what if I could be the first Queen to rule Obbisia?
"Ejawas!"
"Ejawas!"
“Ejawas!”
