The boys journey deeper into the canyon as they go through a tight cavern river as the light slightly pierces through the ceiling of the cavern. The waterfall and river echoes throughout the cavern as they go further into the canyon. They’ve reached the end of the cavern to reach the center of the canyon where a small island sits with a tall rock pillars stands in the middle of the canyon. Roughly around a hundred fifthly feet high.
“We’re gonna climb that?” Saul asked.
“Yup. Prepare for the biggest climb of your life kid.” Jax said as he ties the raft to a rock post and Saul groans loudly for the fact that he has to climb probably a hundred feet. Kam and Saul jump off the raft make their way to a slight slope on a hill that leads to the foot of the pillar. And Jax ran towards Kam and Saul as they began to climb up the pillar.
“So how long have you guys been climbing?” Saul asked as he climbs.
“For almost about two hundred fifty years… I think.” Kam ponders.
“Two hundred fifty-three.” Jax yell.
“Jesus that hella long. Wait, two hundred years? Just how old are guys?” Saul asked.
“Lot older than you think kiddo. We demons don’t age the same as you.” Kam said as he leaps upwards towards Jax.
“And we doubt you’ll live long enough to at our age.” Jax said as he parkours higher and higher on the cliff.
Saul was growing ever more tired as they were barely halfway to the top. He stopped to catch his breath and have a short break. But he could see up ahead that Kam and Jax were still going with no breaks. Saul was envious of them, the fact that they could keep going without getting tired so easily. He then snapped out and began to climb, however, as soon as he reaches for the rock above him, the ax snapped off and Saul began to fall.
“Kid!” Kam and Jax yelled. Kam then bolted by jumping off and dives headfirst towards Saul at a rapid speed.
“Take my hand!” Kam yells as he reaches close to Saul.
They both reach for each as Kam pulls Saul to him then impales his hand through the cliff’s wall as it slows their descent. Saul looks down and he’s about 15 feet above the ground and it was a close had Kam, not dove down to catch him.
“You okay kiddo?” Kam asked.
“Yeah, I got careless again. I’m so sorry for being a burden.” Saul apologizes.
“Don’t be, I got careless for not realizing your limits. But I’m surprised you’ve made it so far.” Kam applauded for his efforts.
“But I fell. Now I need to climb back up-“ “hold on hold on kiddo. You’ve pushed yourself hard enough. And I can tell your hands can barely hold on if you continue, you’ll die from exhaustion and we can’t have that to our newbie just die on us too soon.” Kam implied as Saul's hands were covered in bruises and cuts. His hands are still shaking from the stress itself. Saul gave out a big sigh and swallowed his pride. Kam then put Saul on his back and let him wrap around his body. He could tell that Saul is letting his mistakes get to him.
“Hold on tight as you can kid.” Kam said. Saul did so with as much strength he could mustard up. Kam then adjusted himself as he stares at the top of the pillar. With a single pull up, he jumps up high about 30 feet and starts from against the cliff and running higher and higher. Jax sees Kam and proceeds to do the same. Soon, both Jax and Kam were reaching the top of the cliff and gave one final jump as they were high up in the air and landed on top of the cliff.
“Alright, we’re here. You alright?” Kam asked as Saul turned pale and slipped off Kam’s back and let out a huge groan.
“Guess not. Well, you can take a breather kid. And look at this view.” Kam said.
Saul stood up and caught his breath. When he stood, he marvels at how high he was and how much he could see from over the horizon. The town, the woodlands, the mountains, even a desolate wasteland far to the north and he could possibly be another city but a huge wall surround the city itself. “Wow. Okay, I think this was worth it. Despite the pain of climbing around this canyon. I think this view was worth it at the end.” Saul said as he sits down. Kam and Jax join him to enjoy the view.
“It’s amazing general that a view like this could exist in this world.” Saul said.
“We’ve seen better ones but this is our personal favorite.” Kam said.
“You’ve been further than the south city?” Saul asked.
“We hail from the north city.” Jax replied.
“You mean that city over there?” Saul pointed to the north.
“Nope! It’s even further than that. That however is the center city. But no one has ever been there for centuries. But that’s a whole different story to tell.” Kam said.
“So why come here to the south?” Saul asked.
“Let’s just say we’re not the best people to be at the north right now.” Jax said.
“Ouch.” Saul replied.
“It’s okay, we don’t really miss the north that much anyway. The South is nice and quiet. Nice place to chill.” Kam said as he lays back and so does Jax and Saul.
“Well, quiet isn’t what I would exactly put with you guys and Kimberly. You guys practically make more noise than the average citizens here.” Saul said.
He let out a big sigh as he’s still tired from climbing. But then he started thinking about how disappointed Kam and Jax towards Saul. Not only did he halted their progress twice. First dislocating a shoulder and then fall off. He feels like he has disappointed them both.
“So, what’s eating you kid?” Kam asked.
“What?” Saul replied.
“I said what’s eating you? You’ve been down since we were halfway to this canyon. Something on your mind?” Kam asked.
“What isn’t on my mind is more like it. There’s a lot that’s been on my mind. It’s hard to tell them all.” Saul implied.
“Well, we got all the time in the world kiddo. So, tell us away.” Jax said.
“Promise you won’t think it’s weird?” Saul asked.
“No promises.” Jax implied. Saul sighed as it didn’t give him up encouragement. But he mustard up and spoke out what he wants to get off his chest.
“I feel like I haven’t made much of an impression to any of you guys. On my first mission, I freaked out and killed a guy in self-defense. And even then, Sara put me to the side so I wouldn’t be in the way. I’m barely making any progress with their train, and I don’t feel stronger. All I feel is the pain from my mistakes for not reacting on time or show how physically strong I have gotten. Instead shows how weaker I’m getting instead. And today I slowed you guys down by falling down from the cliffs, twice. How can I prove I’m a member of this group when I’m not as capable as a demon here? But what am I even saying? I’m clearly a human being, and you guys are demons. There should be an obvious difference.” Saul explained.
“Well, you have a point kiddo but, it's in the wrong direction.” Kam implied.
“What do you mean?” Saul asked.
“We don’t judge you for being a human. We judge only by an induvial, by yourself as a person.” Jax said as he gets back up.
“Yes, we are demons and yes, we’ve had centuries of experience of what it means to be on the battlefield and what it means to be a member of our group. But we don’t see everyone as not just members of our group, but as individual people. Demon or humans or otherwise. Don't matter to us on where do you hail from. As long you're "you" that's what matters the most.” Kam said as he also gets back up.
“And we don’t exactly blame you for falling off twice because even you have limits. We didn’t get this strong either within a day either dude.” Jax commented. “Really?” Saul asked.
“Yeah, back then before Kam and I joined the grouped we weren’t the strongest or the smartest people that you’ve known. Back then we were real dumbasses who didn’t make the greatest decisions in their lives.” Jax said.
“Okay, dumbasses is a bit of stretch.” Kam implied.
“Was it though?” Saul asked. Kam expression drop as he thinks didn’t think Saul would catch on.
“Okay… maybe a little…we made a lot of mistakes in our lives. Some of which we were proud of, others that we were not. But honestly, the others don’t judge us from that. They judge us more of the now then what we did in the past. The others have done similar mistakes as well.” Kam said.
“Really?” Saul asked.
“Yeah, before we all formed our group, we were all had different professions. Kam and I were mercenaries, Sara was a vigilant crusader of some sort and Frey was an assassin.” Jax said.
“Jesus, you guys must have had tough times.” Saul implied
“We did, but it was mostly thanks to Sara and the others, we had a new purpose to do and we became better people than what we were before.” Kam said.
“Speaking of which, out of all the members I’ve met so far, I’ve only met you guys, Sara and Frey. I haven’t met the other yet.” Saul implied.
“Oh, we don’t always meet up in the same place. The others then do their own thing. And they-“ Kam was interrupted as a huge earthquake erupted and shook the whole rock pillar. Saul lost his balance and was about to fall but Kam grabbed him quickly and pulled him close.
“What the hell was that?” Saul asked.
“Uh oh. She knows.” Jax said as he looks down as a very pissed off Sara letting out a purple aura as the ground still shakes from her anger.
“KKKAAAAAMMMM!!!! JJJJAAAAAXXXXXXXX!!!!!” She shouted.
“Yup she’s mad.” Jax said.
“You didn’t tell her that we’re borrowing the kid?” Kam asked.
“I thought you did. By the way, we should move.” Jax said.
“Why?” Saul asked. Jax then pushes Kam and Saul then jumps back as a sword slash splits the pillar in half. Far from the distance, Frey was covered in the red and black aura as he too was pissed off. Sara then roundhouse kick the pillar as begins to crumble.
“Welp, bounding time is over kiddo. Time to bail.” Kam said.
“Wait what?” Saul asked as Kam gives him a loop of rope. He then swings a grappling hook and tosses it at the distance.
“Hold on tight and don’t let go!” Kam yelled as he pushes Saul off the crumbling pillars then jumps off himself.
Saul screams as he holds on tight to the rope as he falls and grows ever closer and closer to the ground. But he swung to the left from the rope and straight into the deeps of a gorge.
And swung out of the gorge at the end and let goes of the rope and falls down into the river. Saul was then carried by the river’s current and was heading down the stream head towards a waterfall. Saul tried to swim back but the current was too strong for him to escape as the current was getting stronger and stronger until he reached the waterfall. He then fell again as he was falling again until he was swooped and rescued by Jax. Jax landed on the other side of the canyon while holding Saul over his shoulder.
“Whoa, thanks Jax.” Saul exclaimed.
“Don’t thank me yet!” Jax yelled. Further below, Sara was there as she growls with her eyes glow bright red and begins to run up the cliff wall.
“Hold on tight!” Jax yelled as electricity gathers around him as he starts to run up the cliff and Sara chases behind.
Saul holds on tight as Jax runs alongside the cliff then jumps across the canyon’s cliff. Jax then pulls out another grappling hook and tosses across the canyon. He then hands the rope to Saul and tosses him off his back as Sara tackles Jax as they both head down deep into the canyon. Saul then swings on the grappling as he swings down even further into the canyon but swing upwards and lands on top of another rock pillar. However, as soon as he lands on the pillar it begins to crumbles as well. Saul looks down as sees Frey is wrestling with Kam.
“Kam!” Saul yells to him.
The pillar then collapses and crumbles down towards the end of the canyon. Saul desperately is holding to a flay board as it slides downhill as the speed is chipping away the boulder. He thought he was in the clear until he sees at the bottom of the hill was another gorge.
“Oh come on!” he yells.
Scared, he didn’t know what to do but then, he thought that he should do something stupid and dangerous. He slowly got and tried to balance himself on the bolder as it still slides downhill. He crouches up and down until the bolder reaches the end and he makes a jump for it. He leaps across the gorge and over shots it and slides across to the other side of the gorge. The skin of his arm and his right hip was scraped off as he slowly gets back up. He could the loud bangs coming from the canyon. he would try to go back but he’s can’t another jump that far again.
“Great, looks like I’m gonna take the long route.” He said to himself.
He marches on the west while holding his right arm to stop his bleeding and ventures to make his way back to either the town or the manor. Little does he know, he was being watched by a masked in the trees.
