Tuesday January 21st was around the time I became aware of the COVID-19 virus. Like everyone else, I was concerned but it in no way impacted me - other than in 14 days time, my daughter and I were going to Japan for a 15 day holiday. A holiday that had been in the planning for 5 years and one I booked 12 months prior.
We didn’t once at this time consider ourself in any danger of catching the virus. We weren’t going any where near China. We would be fine.
Friday January 24th I decide to visit my chemist for face masks for my trip - just in case.
I’m informed there are none available and won’t be any until March. This concerns me but I prevail and decide I’ll pick some up once we arrive in Japan.
Thursday 30th January and news is picking up regarding the virus. At this stage it’s still in China and case are beginning to be recorded around the world but I’m unaware of this. I’m not worried about our trip to Japan.
We learn an American friend we haven’t seen since they came to Australia in 2012 to stay with us is currently in Japan for holidays. We make plans to meet up on our first day in Japan. I’m super excited.
Overall, I was in no way worried. I was excited for my holiday and everything was going to be fine. I purchased hand sanitiser and anti-bacterial wipes prior to leaving and would get face masks on my arrival. Nothing to worry about.
