"Wake up Harley!" George said at a tone slightly louder than his normal voice. As he said this, he was getting ready to splash a cup of water at Harley's face, however, right as he moved his hand to splash his friend, Harley opened his eyes and got up.
"Lucky you woke up when you did, you almost got soaked." George said after pulling back the cup. "Let's go duel, then let's wait for my dad to get back from his quest."
It was still relatively early in the morning, but they decided to walk outside and stretch anyway. Earlier, while they were getting dressed, they had both put on all of their Tempests, which was a normal thing for them to do before they dueled. Harley put on an earring that was a tinge of yellow, then a ring, and then a bracelet. As he was putting these on, he noticed a black necklace he was wearing. He didn't remember putting it on, but there was something familiar about it, so he decided to leave it on. George had put on three bracelets and one watch.
I'll take this time to explain what Tempests are and how they work. A Tempest can be any accessory or item that you can wear on your body. Typically, a Tempest is a certain color that corresponds to the element that is infused with it. Red - Fire, Blue - Water, Dark Green - Poison, etc. A Tempest can be any material that can hold an elemental attribute. To make a Tempest, one must make an item using one of those materials, then get the core of a monster or beast and infuse the power of the beast onto the item. Most materials can only hold one element, with very few exceptions. After infusing the element into the item, it is a low-tier item. To get it to mid-tier, one must defeat a certain amount of monsters with the same elemental attribute, and absorb the core of the beast into the item. After a certain amount of cores has been absorbed, the item will evolve into a mid-tier. An item can only absorb cores of the same elemental attribute, and attempting to absorb a different attribute may cause damage to the item, in some cases, even rendering the item useless. The amount of power the Tempest has, however, isn't only affected by the Tempest itself. There is a force called mana, and by channeling more mana into a Tempest, you can significantly increase the amount of power it has. Different people are born with different amounts of innate power. People can further train to increase their amount of mana and control over it. There are tiers for this too.
After they were done stretching, Harley put his hand to the floor and started to channel a little bit of his mana into the earring he was wearing. After about a second, the ground started to rumble, and then a circular platform erupted. "Ok, the platform is ready." Harley stated, "Same rules as always?"
"You bet!" George said very enthusiastically, wanting to test out his new Tempest as soon as possible.
As soon as they were both on opposite ends of the platform, they both counted down "3...2...1...GO!"
