Through the room, three sounds beside the heavy thunders were piercing the silence of the narrow and simple place. The old clock from the wall, Chris frail sob and Theodore voice, who was singing in a low tone a lullaby to calm the kid down.
He used to sing that song to me as well each time I was awakening screaming after they brought me to their house. Theodore used to stay with me, keeping me in his arms, singing softly only for me to hear.
It was a song for my fragile heart.
I sat down on a loveseat, near the door at the same time, as I was glancing tired at the shacking pile of blankets, while Theodore caressed the back of Chris head, which was out from the cocoon he created.
Leaning down I felt my eyes closing, even If I was trying to fight back, my eyes felt heavy. I didn't want to fall asleep. Then, his voice appeared, tormenting me with a gentle smile, that in reality hid underneath a real monster, but I couldn’t fight and slowly I drifted into my dreadful nightmares, accompanied by thunders, which slowly faded away and I heard his voice, shouting my name...
"Luca!" I jumped suddenly feeling cold sweats on my spine. Disorientated, I glanced through the room and my eyes landed on Theodore. "Give me the spair of clothes that are on the board next to you. Shaking, I stared around and saw them. A simple white t-shirt and black shorts. By the time I picked them Theodore managed to take Chris out from his cocoon.
He looked drained and vulnerable and his rusty hair stuck from his forehead. I could only watch how Theo undressed him to change into dry clothes. I was like him the first months after the "incident". I only let one person touch me, feed me, clean me and wash me.
Theodore became the only person I let between the walls I created, then slowly Tyler warm embrace made the wall shattered and one night, I practically collapsed, crying my heart out. Was the first time I spoke or cried in months, realizing I was safe, in my friends arms.
Theodore's warm amber eyes made me feel secure. He should not have that look in his eyes, not after what my brothers did to him, as well, playing with his feelings, while gaining his trust.
I felt my jaw trembling and stormed out the room, unable to watch the scene before my eyes. Christopher's body seemed lifeless, like a doll. He stared blankly at Theodore, like he wasn't even there.
In my rush I felt a soft bump and a yelp. Before my eyes on the floor was Adam, looking straight in my eyes, worried and scared. His eyes were puffy and in his hand had a chocolate bar.
"Sorry bud..." Was the only thing I could say, in a weak whisper before feeling my legs frail. He stood up fast and held my body with his tiny one to not fall down.
"Help!" He shouted. In the corner of my eye I could see Theodore rushing. He held me whispering something before bleakness took over me.
"Luca, you fucker... What did I told you, earn more money and then you can sleep..." I heardPatrick yelling at me before feeling pain erupting through my stomach. Kicks came one after other, but I was too exhausted to scream to stop. I knew he wouldn't...
"Forgive me, I beg you, I'll work harder..." It was the only thing I could say, repeating before he let me, naked on the cold floor, shaking hard and in pain, trying to breath. I closed my eyes and drifted to a deep sleep, knowing well what will wait for me when I'll awake...
Slowly I was pulling myself from a fragment of my past when I felt a gentle touch on my cheek. It was warm and trembling. Fluttering my eyes open before me I could only see two vividly green eyes, burning into my mind. My body stiffened and he withdrew his hand fast.
"You.. were screaming and tossing." Chris said, while starting to play with the blanket he had wrapped around him, averting his gaze from me. I didn't reply. I could feel the heart hammering in my chest and my body bathed in sweat. I dreamed about him again.
Patrick took my innocence, Alex shattered my soul, my brothers pulled my heart out, killing me the moment they let me behind... I always closed my eyes, seeing myself running but toward my eternal darkness.
What a disgrace. I did it before an innocent child, I let myself be seen in all my ugliness.
"Where is Theo?" I asked him to try to change the topic. Christopher sat near me, letting a small space between us, both staring at the ceiling.
"He is talking on the phone with someone named Rebecca, I think I might know that name, but it is somewhere in my head in a haze." Chris said, trembling slightly near me from his fever. He turned his head toward me mumbling things, like he was trying to say something but without hurting me. "I... I won't say anything I heard." My head snapped toward him, but his eyes were sincere.
"What I said?" I asked him, biting my bottom lip and fidgeting.
"A lot!" He only said. "I'm broken, like you." Chris continued in a serious tone and his face darkness. "I think I will lose my mind, or already did." He continued, letting out a fake chuckle.
"You're not crazy, kid." I told him while instinctively holding his hand, intertwining our fingers.
"Then why do I always forget, why all of a sudden leave me..."
He trailed off but I felt his trembling tone in voice and tightening the hold.
I didn't reply, letting him slowly fall asleep. I knew what I had to do. Tell Theodore the truth about my past and Tyler. Tonight I might lose a friend, a brother and my pillar, but I couldn't fight anymore to this pain alone. I tilted my head toward Christopher seeing how angelic he looked and peaceful while he slept.
Who could not love him. I been a fool all this years hating him for a stupid motive.
His eyes moved and as well his lips, meaning he was dreaming perhaps something. I knew I didn't have much time before he would awake abruptly, like me, but stronger than me, while fragile deep inside as well.
I gulped the moment the door opened and Theodore smiled seeing me...
