He continued to stare at his papers, slipping out of his file rack. His eyes stared down to his hands on the keyboard then towards the monitor.
'Email...right, I have to email my client...' he exhales and begins typing away.
"Winner!" the voice said along with a hit on the head of Manager's.
"Ow..." Manager rubs his head and turned to his left. Manager Tae, another manager who had three clients.
"Winner, you got another client!" Tae smiled and pulled out a chair from another cubical. "Sofia and the other managers and I decided you're gonna take on another client!" Tae hands over a file to Manager. "Read it over."
"Hidemi Jinki..." Manager turns and looks at Tae, "when did everyone decide...?"
"Hey, hey, don't give me that look, you look like you're about to take me down!"
Manager sighs and turns his body towards Tae. He goes through the papers in the file.
'Hidemi Jinki, American Exchange High School Graduate Student...'
"Interesting background..." Manager flips through, "...she currently works at a cafe in Tokyo..."
Tae chuckles, "I heard she's cute, haha, I bet she works at a maid cafe."
"Don't be pervert..." Manager scolds quietly and eyes her other past job occupation, "...she used to work at a music studio. Hmm, I wonder why she didn't stay there."
"H-hey now, maybe she wanted to become a comic artist! And here's her opportunity!" Tae nudges Manager, "Look at her profile! Isn't she cute?" Tae pulls out the paper file with the client's photo. "She has a nice smile, doesn't she?"
"I'm not taking her," Manager closes the file and shoves it back to Tae, "I already five clients on my hands already and I don't even know when everyone decided I would take her."
"Umm..."
"Tae."
"Okay, okay!" Tae groans, "...we decided when you went out for lunch."
Manager rubs his forehead, "the only time I went out for lunch is when everyone decides to make me take a client?!"
"HEY NOW, IT TOOK TIME! I had to get you to go to the new opening of Miss Minty's Flavor Cafe!" Tae nervously shouts, catching the attention of other managers working nearby.
Manager sighs and glares back at Tae. "You know well enough that coupon did not work on me. I went home to eat today."
Tae suffers in defeat, holding his chest in pain. "You don't even like going home..."
"However," Manager crosses his arms, staring down at Tae with his eyes. "Did you tell Sofia that you'll convince me?"
...Tae stays quiet. "Yes..." his eyes looked at the floor.
"Tae!"
"Please!! Sofia has high hopes for this girl! And Sofia also trusts me to convince you, you have such good work-ethic she said and-and she wants you to take this job of being this client's manager!"
Manager groans quietly to himself. He stares back at Tae, '...what am I going to do with him?'
"Give it to me."
Tae looks up in astonishment. "Uh...okay."
He hands over the file to Manager again, and once more, Manager goes through the file and rereads it. Tae stares at him silently.
Manager closes the file and stands up, "I'll go talk to Sofia, I'm not sure if I'm able to take another client after dealing with five in my hands already."
As Manager passes by Tae, Tae quickly stands up nervously. "Eh?! Um, if you're going to talk to Sofia, then would you mind telling her I convinced you?"
Manager sighs, '...you're trying to impress her.'
He nods, "Yeah, yeah..." Manager sighs once more, leaving the management cubical office to the elevator. Tae smiled and spun his chair. He chuckled more and exhaled in relief.
'Huh?' Tae crawled over to Manager's chair and looked at his monitor. '...his clients are ending their contracts soon? Since when...?'
...
"Knock, knock," he opened the door slightly and looked through, "are you available at the moment?"
"Y, yes! Come in," she scrambles papers around and quickly sits down. Manager bows slightly and closes the door. Walking in, he notices Sofia's desk, swamped with papers and stacked plastic cups.
Arriving at Sofia's office, a dark room with the curtains slightly covering the windows, minimum lighting and the number of times you would hear her groan in agony. As the Management Director, Sofia is tasked with every managers below her. Though, she seems...to be managing.
"What?" she questioned nervously as she picks up fuzz from her hair. Knowing Manager, she always knows what he's thinking. Well, sorta.
He raises the file, "Tae has told me you and the others have appointed me with a new client. I guess I don't understand why you didn't think about telling me first."
Sofia sighs and sits down, hiding behind the mess. "You know," she pulls back her bangs, "you've always been the type of person to...well, you know..."
"You know...?" Manager crosses his arms.
"Look, please understand. A lot of our other managers are still trying to take as many clients as you do. You have about five other clients who live all around the world. Germany, China, the US, the Philippines, and the best country, Canada."
Manager exhales, rolling his eyes, "you're very patriotic about your own country..."
Knowing Sofia, she has always taken care of everyone in the department. She has gotten to know everyone personally and even other managers' clients. That's why a lot of people who work with Sofia, always seem to be at ease. She's Sofia, who wouldn't like her?
Her smile pokes out, "well, who wouldn't be patriotic when you've been far away home for a long time?" Sofia sighs and slides herself lazily back up, "I would be grateful if you can this client. Did you read the file?"
"Yes, I did," Manager nods, opening up the file and going through her file. "Hidemi..."
"I'm meeting her again today later on, would you like to meet her?" Sofia smiles softly. "I think you'll like her and I know you like meeting others in person more than through calls."
"Sofia," Manager calls out, "I have five other clients...what makes you believe I can take one more?"
Her eyebrows knit, worriedly, "...their contracts are ending soon. I talked to EuJK the other day and she's ready to move on from making comics. She'll be transferring to the animation department where her comic will become real...and she's been telling you how much she has been waiting for this moment. She's our fifth in popularity in drama and we're finally making her dreams come true with the hard work she has accomplished. Mr. Bucket's contract is-"
"I know..." he eyes the ground...and knowing him, Sofia knows he has a hard time saying goodbye. "I am happy for them, but I'm not sure since their series has not ended yet. It's difficult to take on another client."
Sofia chuckled, "it's always difficult. I know it." Sighing, she continued to smile as she looked behind her into the blinds of the window. "Our company has been growing more and more. We're finally able to have a Creator's Workshop! Clients nearby in the city can work side by side with us and they can interact with other creators."
Manager nods, "it is amazing..." He stares back at the file in hand, opening it and flipping through, he sees the profile of the client.
Sofia turns and spots him looking, smiling, she crosses her arms. "Well," she said, "would you like to meet her?"
"Hmm?" he closes the file, looking back up at Sofia.
"Hidemi Jinki," Sofia points to the file, "would you want to meet her?"
Manager stared at Sofia for a while before looking back down at the file. "...I guess so."
