"Heart, get in here now!" Saint's powerful voice pierced the quiet air of the office, and every head near the farther cubicles perked up to look over top of the edge, each face filled with a look of pity for him.
Heart sighed, as he barely was able to set his bag down on the chair before Saint had called him on his first day, the wheels on the chair spun from the weight of the bag.
"Coming," he called back.
Heart walked towards the office, adjusting his brand new navy suit, which was clearly extremely expensive, and fit him perfectly. It was still tight in many of the same ways his sisters had been. Though, the arms and legs fit perfectly, and it was clearly cut to fit tight, not tight because it didn't fit.
Kit pushed up his glasses with a small half smile.
"Don't worry. The first day is always the hardest." He commented.
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Heart asked.
"No, not at all, I was simply stating a fact, nothing will make this day any better. The first day really is hell." Kit's grin spread and his bright silver eyes sparkled with amusement as if he knew something Heart didn't.
He stacked up three thick files with blue tabs on them and tucked them under his arm, then folded his deep grey suit jacket over top.
"Good luck today I am off, the master calls and the dogs must always come, right?" He beamed.
"Saint gave you an order as soon as you came in too? Right? Oh, no, this is the high master. The one we all not so secretly undulate for. Saint's grandfather, the true master who holds the strings."
Heart mouthed a surprised ooh and nodded.
'So the master has his own masters, huh? Maybe there was some way he could use that to his advantage. Maybe Saint didn't have the deed that guy did… No, that wouldn't work, there would be zero advantage and leverage from this knowledge because Kit was nice, but he wouldn't share incriminating family secrets on the newbies' first day.'
Kit's phone rang loudly breaking into their conversation and while Kit was freeing a hand to answer it. Saint bellowed again.
"Heart!"
"See you later, Oh, and remind Saint he promised to be gentle." Kit stated quickly then answered the call and rushed through the offices and towards the elevator.
Heart moved swiftly towards the large glass door of Saint's office, which had the remote control blinds down again. His hand halted an inch above the door frame, remembering the last time he was in here just a week ago, and how that meeting had ended.
He rested his hand on the handle and pulled decisively.
"Morning Saint you called?"
Saint was bent forward over from where he was sitting atop the corner of his desk next to the phone and pouring over something eyebrows creased with frustration. His suit jacket lay across one chair in a mess, as if he had thrown it off the moment he got to work. His Navy blue vest overtop his white dress shirt looked professional enough that he didn't need the jacket. He looked up in surprise and did a double take.
"Is something wrong?" Heart asked curious why he was staring at him.
"Oh, it's just nobody's said morning to me in ages."
Heart took a second to process that news, surprised by it.
Saint stood, his long legs making the move a simple step forward from the desk rather than a hop down.
Saint put a hand in his dapper grey suit pant pocket. His hair slicked back, his white shirt sleeves rolled up to just below the elbow. He looked smooth.
"Are you feeling sorry for me?" He asked sauntering over towards Heart. He stopped one foot from him and looked down his nose evaluating Heart.
"A little," Heart responded truthfully.
Saint raised an eyebrow, a look of reproach flashing in his eyes.
"My second look wasn't because you said morning though." Saint's voice purred the words and his face took on a pleased little glint of viciousness.
He stepped forward, taking up that last breath of air between them. He sucked in a breath and leaned in.
"That was because you look so amazing in that women's suit. I had to get a second look in."
Heart cringed.
'Why did I have to say anything? Like why? I really gotta stop talking around him. Everything I say seems to set him off.'
"Did you wear navy to match me? Are you trying to suck up to me? Is this our couple uniform now?" Saint teased.
Heart took a step back and looked up into Saint's face.
The smugness written all across his face made this strong urge well up inside Heart, an undeniable urge to smack him.
"See, and now I can see why no one ever greets you in the morning." Heart snapped back sourly.
Saint chuckled.
"I love your tenacity, you're like half chinchilla, half cat."
"What the heck could you possibly mean?"
"I have a cat, you remind me of her, ballsy and likes to swipe at the hand that feeds it, but really it's all an act and she is just begging to be pet, and held. Whereas you also remind me of my pet chinchilla Prince, delicate and soft, you have to be careful with him, or you might just scare it half to death."
Heart clicked his tongue then ran it across his teeth, trying very hard to collect his anger so that it wouldn't bust out at his new boss.
"Was there a reason you needed me, or did you just want to call me in here so you could see we are all matchy, matchy? Maybe we can braid each other's hair and take a selfie while we are at it." Heart sneered.
Saint burst into laughter and Heart did a quick double take.
"I would love that, but I don't think me taking a selfie of us together would be appropriate for any social media." His eyes twinkled with glee and he turned and walked back to the desk and flung his jacket out of the way and onto the floor in a heap.
"Sit." He stated before Heart could respond to his last comment.
"You threw your very expensive jacket on the floor." Heart stated aggravated that he would be so careless just because he had money.
"Of course, you needed a place to sit. Besides, my slave needed something to do today."
"Kit's out of the office today, he can't take your dry clean… Oh you mean me." Heart stated flatly, even more aggravated now.
"I have a list here of things you can and cannot do in my presence, as well as a second list of all the daily tasks I expect you to do. These of course are just the basic tasks, there will be more tasks required of you, but those will be given individually throughout the day and you will be expected to complete them swiftly and without any issues."
"Understood?"
"Yes, absolutely, I will do my best." Heart answered sincerely.
"Good, now, here are the lists. You can peruse them at your own leisure at your desk. For today your main task is following me around, and your secondary minor task at the moment is cleaning that jacket up for me by my next meeting at ten a.m."
Heart looked at his watch, it was ten after eight, that really wasn't much time to get it washed, pressed, and hung on a hanger to dry again.
He bent and picked up the jacket and turned to leave.
"Ahh, ah, ah, stop right there, that's not it." Heart spun back around, wondering what more he could possibly want from him.
"I just have a few minor details to clarify for your file first. You go to Thammasat University right."
Heart looked down at the ground, feeling guilty.
'No one can find out. No one can know about the incident.'
"Yes." He lied.
"You have nothing that will ever inhibit you from being able to do your job properly here? We have a policy that all medical conditions and psychological issues be listed on your resume, so that we can properly vet every employee."
Heart sucked in his bottom lip and nibbled on it.
"Yes, yup everything on there is correct. Is there anything else you need?" He asked, one foot already turned to retreat.
He absolutely hated lying to people, especially over something he had no control over.
Saint grabbed a pen and marked something down.
"Okay, you can go. Tell Kit when he comes back to come in here, I have something to speak to him about, it isn't exactly urgent, but it is pertinent that he comes as soon as he can."
Heart nodded then turned and hightailed it out of there, walking as fast as he could, his palms so sweaty the corners on the lists he was clutching to were becoming slightly limp.
