There was a new saying going around in school. When Chu got to school on Thursday, all the Asian boys in the library excitedly told him that the new phrase was "If you mess with him, he'll pun-chu". Instantly, Chu fell in love with the saying and he would wear it like a badge. He also realised today was the last day to properly ask out Caitlyn because if he asked tomorrow, it would be Friday and he would not be able to spend another day with her to solidify his relationship with her. So today was the day to make everything happen.
After reading his favourite manga Odyssey Seven, he had deduced that he was at least a level 20 Human but he was nowhere near the level that Caitlyn was. She was at least a level 84 Angel and there was no way in hell that he would ever match her in power. She overwhelmed him even when she wasn't trying and he was pulled towards him like a magnet.
As he looked around in the library, he saw Caitlyn sitting at the usual spot and unsurprisingly, Alex wasn't sitting there today.
"Yes!" Chu thought to himself as he smiled into the distance, Alex was probably still treating his bruises like a wounded lion.
He stared at Caitlyn, still smiling, until Jo waved his hand in front of Chu and reminded him that if he kept doing this, she would probably get a restraining order against him. He wasn't exactly subtle when it came to hiding his love for her. Nearly everyone in Year 10 knew about this and he was constantly reminded during class, when he was bombarded with comments such as,
"She's still 'caiting' for you" and "What are you caiting for."
(Being in Year 10 didn't necessarily mean 15 year olds were capable of making good puns.)
RING!!!!
The bell rang and Chu got up with the rest of his friends and went to go have first period.
Today, there was a physics test and Chu had forgotten all about it the other night. The first three days of the year had been hectic with the introduction of Caitlyn into his life and he was finding it hard to concentrate on anything else.
"Damn it!" Chu thought to himself. He had to start focusing on school or his grades would slip and that was basically a death sentence for any Asian teen in high school.
As a result, he found it hard to remember many of the concepts and equations that he was meant to remember and sighed as he stared at the blank piece of paper with only five minutes to go.
He looked around hopelessly at the other students who had actually listened during class and watched as they silently wrote on their paper. He slumped down and accepted defeat as he looked at the ground.
But then, he was suddenly empowered with the sheer power of his Asian brain that knew the equation and that could commit tax evasion and he did not strain to retain all the memories that he had forgotten during class and he wrote with the power of Light Yagami as he wrote equations like he was writing names.
"TIME'S UP!" Shouted the physics teacher and Chu slammed his pen down with a crash as he looked triumphantly around.
He was sweating heavily and the only thing he could think about was Caitlyn. Her majestic face had been the real thing that had pushed him on and he had used the thought of her looking down at him in shame as the fuel to drive his Asian train brain to victory.
He left class and he thought about how recess would be one of two opportunities today to ask Caitlyn on a date. If he failed here, lunch would be the only other option or this week would have been wasted and he would have to wait a whole weekend to be able to see her again. 48 hours without seeing a level 84 Angel like Caitlyn would cause a lowly Human like Chu to go down by at least 3 levels.
He met up with his friends and together they entered the library.
There he saw Caitlyn, already sitting there, diligently doing homework as always and he went down to sit in the chair opposite to her. He turned around to check if his friends were watching and they were all pointing their thumbs up and pretending to kiss each other. Chu blushed bright red and it was at that moment that Caitlyn said,
"Uhhh, are you okay?"
"Oh, uhhh yeah I'm fine. It's just a little hot here with someone like you sitting here," replied Chu.
"Yes!" He thought to himself as he smiled inside. He had delivered a perfect pick-up line and Caitlyn was sure to be impressed.
"Um, excuse me? I can leave if you want." replied Caitlyn coldly.
"Wait! No, what I meant is you are incredibly beautiful and if it would be okay with you I would like to invite you to come to the movies with me on Saturday." Chu blurted out instinctively.
Caitlyn looked at Chu like he had just committed murder with a mixture of confusion, disgust and shock in her eyes.
"Wow. That was pretty ballsy, I must say." replied Caitlyn.
Chu was almost fainting with the amount of blood rushing to his head at that moment and the colour of his face said the same thing.
"Well, I am just a mere human compared to an angel like you."
Now Caitlyn blushed herself and Chu was amazed that he got this majestic woman to show facial expressions.
After 30 seconds, Caitlyn responded, "Okay, give me three reasons to go out on a date with you. You have already shown me a reason yesterday when you knocked over my ex-boyfriend and if you are able to show my two more feats of strength like you displayed yesterday by the end of next week, I will accept your invitation to a movie date."
The only thing Chu heard out of her reply was EX-BOYFRIEND. He was stunned. He didn't even know how they broke up but that was irrelevant right now. The important thing was was that she was not seeing anyone anymore and it was the
He instantly responded, "Of course. I will show you two reasons for why I am able to almost match a woman of your calibre."
She blushed and nodded and Chu stood up to go join the rest of his friends. They had obviously been listening because they were putting their thumbs up wildly and trying to shout as loudly as possible without attracting the attention of the librarian.
Chu smiled.
There was a new hope.
