I turned back; in front of me the heavy wood door of the orphanage appeared, even though I wasn't sure about this place what was exactly. The past seemed to be present through each hailstone that was created. Felt it vibrated with a silent that gave me shivers. My eyes lay on the broken glass from a window with a whizz, which connected the outside world with the inside empty halls and rooms.
On the rusty iron from the windows bars spiders were gathering like were spectators of a show. That entire place was studded with them, I could feel their stare, I could feel a hot breath on the nape of neck that made me tremble.
It felt like they were following each move of us. The roof sagged above the entry letting a hole into it while the untamed rain made its way inside, washing the place if it's foretime sins. Yves grabbed my arms as he sank his head in my chest, trembling.
"It's so cold."
He was repeating while he suddenly wrapped his arms around my waist, and sniffing me. He crocked his head as his lips were starting to bleed.
"Yves!"
I shouted scared, as with my back of my palm I wiped his face and lips, noticing that he tore my skin slightly from my abdomen.
I should feel fear and pain, but my body was numb and my emotions started to slowly fade in a dull sensation. My only care was that this boy before my eyes to arrive home; that's it. Even; if I would have given him my body to feed from it.
"No!" Suddenly Yves shouts. His voice was raspy, but thin, as he gripped from me, shaking his head hard. "I promise I will protect you and... I'm not a monster, but I'm so hungry..." He said, as he started to sob heavily. I could feel his confusion and fear. He was wiping frantically his eyes, while I felt powerless.
The cold of the night started to embrace each part of my bare skin, while the single thing that was giving me warmth was Yves little body which was clinging to me. He sniffed as his sobbing started to calm down.
"Yes, I will not be your food. I promise,"
I whispered lifting my head toward the sky and feeling the pelting rain washing our bodies. The sky was grazed by the silver roots of the lightings while our savior's sounds became a distant noise while all became engulfed by the thunders.
The valley was lit up as fireworks were set up in the sky. Yves seemed haggled until his eyes got wider making me frown. He had a curious look in his eyes as he reached my face, touching my eyelids with his fingertips. His face had a sweet innocent smile. "Natty, your eyes..." He said as he felt in a maze type looking into mine. He stood on his tips approaching my face, feeling his warm breath upon my collar bone.
"What happen?" I asked puzzled, staring at him as I wrinkled my forehead.
"The color, is so beautiful." Yves told me. "Is like a summer sunset." He only said, as I close my eyes fast feeling a sharp pain in them. I could not erase the image from Yves mind. Vividly for the first time I saw my "real" eyes, the creature eyes.
Each of my both eyes had a different color. Red dominated my left while yellow dominated the right. A sinister black plunged me to an eternal darkness as it crossed with a mild red, as a blaze, continued burning. The right left my human side, unable to take completely over me. It only extended like a spider web the red river of the crimson on an edge unable to go further and conquer my entire being. Seeing it a small smile blossomed on my lips.
She didn't won completely, but I could hear a fading voice in my mind, trying to seize mine.
"Natty, you have a creepy look on your face..."Yves pouted as he whined. " Let me see them more." He continued, as I shook my head starting to laugh. For the first time I felt I had the play ground setted, will be a battle between me and her and one someday will lose.
"Yves, little angel we're going home and I know will be a long battle to keep us sane but we will succeed."
It was the only thing I could say to Yves, as I heard his thoughts; he wanted to be in his mommy arms; where not a single creature could harm him. "Our hearts still beats up Yves, you have right, strong and steady, even if our humanity was stripped from us." Yves nodded feeling completely lost looking at me with his big eyes and holding his chin between his fingers trying to think hard.
Another playful action that suddenly reminded me of my little brother, Emilian. An innocent action that made him look adorable. I smiled gently.
Holding his little hand I entered inside making him flinch as the memory of what he done flashed in his mind but we needed to do this. Burn it to the ground. I closed his eyes and sang him a song as I guided him toward the room I woke up. On the wall was a photo that captured my all attention and fury surged through my all body, as a lava flood burned through my veins - Jack.
Yves let out a whimper of fear as he sunk his head on my back. "What she did to you?" I asked flatly, making him to jolt as he mumbles something but was enough to hear him clearly. "Ava was a bad person." This entire place was theirs, to play around without being caught. The walls were filled with small photos like trophies. Under each were a date and the name of the children. On a corner below five photos took my attention. Were us and the other two boys from the camp.
"Where are the other two?" Yves asked with a sad tone recalling what they done to us and Olly while I shrugged.
"With bit of luck they weren't kidnapped."
Watching Oliver pic I could at last see his full name Oliver Aeneas. He was smiling bright as he had in his arms some branches. Behind him the fire camp felt like will consume him. I crouch and I pull it out from the wall while asking Yves to find us some clean cloths. He gasped as he came running with an arm full of them, our cloths.
"They never intended to let us live." Yves said, pouting but as well his innocent look started gradually change in something malicious as his fingers cracked so his neck. I huffed, as I stood up and walked toward the candle and pushing it softly on the floor.
"Yes they never did but we died in that forest Yves even If we breathe and feel our hearts beating." He nods as we dress up while watching how slowly the fire comes to life and lit up the room.
The gates of hell opened and we stepped in them. The world is our new playground. I hold tight Yves cold hand and I turn walking out toward home...
