It was oddly comfortable, yet unfamiliar, to be so close to someone you loved and not being able to tell them you loved them. It was not painful though, at least not for Giselle, because she became much closer to Jace over the past month than she had been in the past decade.
Their friendship was nice, to say at least.
Of course, Giselle always felt her heart beat ten times faster when Jace laid his head on her shoulder during their late-night conversations or when he playfully winked at her as he teased her.
She blushed more than ever, especially if any of her family members commented on how close they were getting. And not to forget, the amount of drawings she made of Jace and herself in her notebook made her giddy with happiness, simply because they were no longer dreams but real memories that she was making with him.
Yes, she was still in love with him and yes, she constantly felt that pressure in her to confess to Jace but she didn't want to break the ease, the familiarity that she was forming with him. She liked being with him, even thought it was just as his friend.
At least that was better than nothing, though.
Yet, nothing had prepared her for that one Sunday when Jace found her notebook. Her notebook filled with drawings and quoted about him.
It had honestly been her own mistake. She had been talking to Jace, notebook in hand, when she heard Tiger's voice from below. In hurry, she dumped her notebook, alongside all of Jace's study books (which looked very similar to her book) and rushed down.
Caught up with spending time with one of her best friends, she completely forgot about her notebook and the thought that Jace might accidentally open it didn't even cross her mind. That is, until she saw him pass her an unfamiliar look during lunch.
And that's when she realised something was wrong.
With the knowledge that her notebook was nowhere near her, it was clear that he had it.
The one thing that she didn't want to do, the one friendship that she wanted to protect from finding out, all of that was destroyed.
Giselle knew with the sinking feeling in her heart that he didn't love her, now with that look her passed her.
Now, was there even any chance of them still remaining friends?
Probably not. She knew that the last thing Jace must have wanted was to know that his friend was head over heels for him. Giselle could almost feel that he must be feeling so betrayed.
Closing her eyes as leaned against her room door, she couldn't stop the onslaught of tears falling from her eyes.
What if he thought that she was getting closer to him simply because she was in love with him? Why did this have to happen to her? It felt so unfair.
Yet, a nagging voice in her head, told her that perhaps, if she had confessed to him before, she didn't have to go through this now. Perhaps, she was making a mess out of the whole situation. In fact, her mind argued, Jace may even be happy knowing this.
Little did she know how true that was.
