Giselle shook her head at herself. No, she couldn't do it. She knew that the moment she went up to him to finally confess her feelings, her tongue would twist, her voice would shake and her head would start spinning.
It will be horrible if that happened right in front of him. Jace would think that she was clumsy and a fool, especially if she fainted then and there.
Taking in a deep breath, she shook the thoughts away. No, she had to do it today. She loved him for so long, and now that the opportunity was presenting itself, she needed to confess to him.
Even if he didn't accept her, at least she would know that she did try, that she did do something about her feelings, even though it was not worth it.
With that thought in mind, and her notebook in hand, she set out of the house, to the bonfire that was celebrated every year in their town on the weekend of the first school week after the winter break.
Giselle was going to do it. She was strong and brave and she could definitely tell Jace everything today. Alright, maybe not that strong. Or even brave. No, maybe she could not do it.
But you have to, Tiger's voice in her head admonished her, it might as well be your only chance.
Pursing her lips, Giselle nodded to her thoughts. Yes, she had to do this.
As she felt the heat of the fire on her face and the noise of friends chattering around her, she made up her mind about the matter, hopefully for the last time.
She looked around, scouting the area for the only person she had eyes for. Her eyebrows furrowed when she realised that he was not around.
Maybe he went for a walk, she thought to herself. With that in mind, she walked away from the crowded place, tucking the flying stsrands of hair behind her ears.
As she walked through the path leading to the lake, a smile grew on her lips. The sky looked beautiful, with bright stars dotting the familiar darkness. The moon was low, almost setting a romantic hue over her.
She closed her eyes, enjoying the breeze on her face. It calmed her down, settling the nerves within her, almost giving her the courage to do anything she wanted, anything in the world.
Her eyes opened grudgingly, her smile slowly fading as the wind died down. The peace in her body was replaced by bout of anxiousness.
Gulping down the dryness in her throat, she continued walking, almost halting when she saw his lone figure sitting at the edge of the clear lake, his feet dangling in the water.
No, she could not do this. She could not confess her feelings to him. Not when he looked so broken, so lost.
Slowly, she made her way over to him, settling down next time, without saying a single word.
She knew he would prefer her silent company at the moment rather than answering her million questions and listening to her stupid babbling.
Yet, nothing prepared Giselle for the sight she saw when she looked at him. He was crying. Silently, albeit, but the tears streaming down his cheeks broke her heart.
Without thought, she enveloped him into a tight hug, pursing her lips to control the tears threatening to escape from her own eyes.
They stayed like that, hugging each other, for what seemed like minutes, but was probably hours, until it was time to go home.
And by the time they went home, an understanding had formed between them, a special bond that even words could not explain. A bond that only both of them could understand.
