Chapter Ten
“Who’s here?” Adrian asked now fully in front of me.
“Marcus.” Was all I could say. Just smelling his disgusting scent made me remember everything. A loose tear fell down my face.
“How do you know?” He asked looking around and trying to smell his scent.
“I-I can smell him.” I was talking in a far out voice not really there mentally. All I was thinking about was my dad and my brother.
“Oh god, he’s close.” I said. The fear I was feeling made me unable to move.
“What’s going on?” Adrian asked still trying to smell the air.
“Listen, whatever Marcus says don’t believe him. 99% of everything he says is a lie.” I said looking into his eyes pleading him to believe. “Please just don’t let him take me!” I said desperation in my voice.
“You’re my mate and I’ll protect you.” He said sternly.
“Ahh there’s my favorite Alphess.” Markus’ voice echoed around us in the forest.
Adrian looked at me with a questioning gaze.
“Ah and there would be the Alpha of this pack.” He said acting as if he was all high and mighty.
“Go away Marcus!” I sneered showing my teeth. He only faltered a short second before he recovered.
“Now now, is that anyway to talk to your Alpha?” He said as if he was talking to a child.
“You will never be my Alpha!” I said looking him right in the eyes.
“Well then, I have a question for Adrian.” He said looking over in his direction. “Why didn’t you kill her? She’s a rogue. Doesn’t your pack have a strict code against them? Isn’t it something like ‘kill on sight’ or something?” he said smiling a nasty smile. “Or perhaps she’s went and told a few lies about why she was a rogue so she could stay? Hmm?” He said it as if he wasn’t the one standing there that did something wrong.
“Did she tell you that she had no choice but to runaway? Well that is true, after all she did slaughter her father, brother, mother and sister in cold blood.” He said with a smile.
“You monster! How dare you say such things about them! You killed all of them! You killed him in the most dishonorable way possible!” I yelled lunging forward, but Adrian blocked my way. “What?” I said confused at his hard look.
He turned around and faced Marcus. “I think you should leave.” He said in a hard voice.
“My how the tables have turned.” He said turning his head as if he couldn’t bear the sight of us. “Well I supposed I should tell your pack just what kind of vermon you’re harboring here, hmm?” He said twitching his head up. “Or you could of course just hand the traitor over to me and my pack.” He said an evil look in his eyes. I had to look away before I attacked him again.
“They won’t believe you. She is my mate! They won’t believe a damn thing you say!” He said placing his paw forward. “Now leave!” He said more forceful than before. Marcus didn’t say another word as he left. I didn’t realize how tense I was until he was out of sight.
