After taking a moderately deep breath, Alexander took strong steps to leave the medical ward. He held his breath as he walked, feeling his cheeks swell and his lungs start to hurt. By the time he gasped for air, he was standing at a narrow staircase that lead both up and down to various decks meant to be used by staff.
As he caught his breath the image of Julian curled up and facing away from him all ill haunted his mind's eye. It irritated him so much that he slammed his fist against the wall and grit his teeth. I didn't mean to make him sick – I didn't think he'd really come with me. He'd been so mad at me up to this point, that I just figured he'd take the money and run, and I'd be here alone. His blue eyes scanned up the stairwell. “Funny,” he mused aloud. “I expected to travel alone, and in the end... I guess I am.”
The blond clenched his fist tightly as he started up the stairs. His free hand gripped the cold metal banister so hard as he eased himself up the metal steps, his knuckles turned white.
