“Hey, want to come over to my house after school?” he said with confidence. “my parents are going on vacation till tomorrow night, you can stay over if you’d like,” I responded with a nervous smile. “My mom would never let me go over a boy's house, let alone sleepover.” He looked slightly disappointed but shrugged it off like it was a bad idea. “…but she doesn’t have to know I’m sleeping with you...” “I mean sleeping over with you!” he let out a chuckle and gave me a smile. His smiles we’re the worst thing on his body, they were intoxicating. Anyone would fall in love with that puppy.
I texted my mom and she agreed without suspecting a thing. I normally wouldn’t lie to her, but I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to go to his house alone. We’re just friends, but I guess it was just the excitement to go somewhere I shouldn’t be, with someone I shouldn’t be with. I trusted him; I knew he wouldn’t do anything that I didn't want.
We walked to his house, which was a short distance from the school, laughing the whole way there. We just talked about stupid stuff and making fun of each other, a common conversation we have that always ends in laughter. The best part was when I made fun of his size. He got defensive of course. I held up my pinky to compare while sticking my tongue out. “I’ll whip it out right now!” “Ha-ha, no thanks, I think I’m good.” This joke was a little different than our regular chuckles about the pimples on our faces or how messy our hair was that day. But I don’t think either of us was affected by the change in humor.
We were getting closer to the house and we saw that his parents didn't leave yet. We waited around the corner in some shrubbery, for them to finish loading the car. As they put the last suitcase into the trunk, we watched as the car pulled out of the driveway and onto the street. I rubbed my hands together and gave a low-pitched gravelly laugh. He let out a snicker
in response to my cheesy joke, which I appreciated since it was so dumb.
