Heart stepped back into the company with the biggest smile on his face.
He felt none of the feelings he had last time, nearly two weeks ago when he had run out of here in a burning plethora of angsty unidentifiable feelings. Now he felt calm holding his new visitor's badge and he felt like himself in his cleaned shirt and new dress pants.
He was ready to go. Perfect, precise, like himself again.
He didn't know how he had landed the job when he was so absolutely sure he wasn't going to. When he got the call both he and Min drank all night to celebrate, the next day they had gone out to buy him those discounted pants.
It was the best.
Now here he was getting one of his dream jobs, a paid internship here at the biggest architecture company in all of Bangkok.
A tall man who didn't look much older than Heart stepped forward and offered a hand towards the elevators with a polite bow.
"Welcome, my name is Kit. I hope you don't mind that we asked you to skip the initial tour with the other new hires. The boss has a fairly tight schedule, but has got a little time to meet you presently. I promise he has assured, that you can do all the regular orientation stuff later on at your own leisure."
Heart nodded his head and followed Kit past security who scanned his card and smiled. He smiled back over-enthusiastically; he was so happy the guard even chuckled. Kit looked at him and smiled too, but his smile held something else that he hid quickly. Heart followed Kit into the elevator and Kit pressed the level 24 button and the elevator lurched to life at a steady speed.
Heart stared forwards, trying hard not to stare at how elegant, poised, mature, and handsome Kit looked. While he was musing on how much more mature this Kit looked than him, even though they couldn't be that far apart in age. What Kit had previously said before when they entered the elevator finally dawned on him and he turned to look at Kit his interest peaked.
"The boss? Why would I be meeting the boss? Is this a thing for interns in your company? They all meet the boss on their first day? "
Kit chuckled a soft sweet sound that made Heart feel embarrassed but pleased.
"Let's just say he is meeting you now... Um, because you both need to become acquainted for your job to go smoothly, anyway."
Heart nodded, since that made sense.
The bell dinged and Heart gulped before following Kit, off and into the new level.
The room looked like a regular office large open and with an assortment of desks filled with clutter. Just off to the side and up a small set of stairs was a small platform where two small desks were along with a glass executive's office. Their large set of frosted and regular glass windows enclosing a rather large office behind them.
Sure enough, Kit led him up the stairs and opened the door. There was a couch off to one side near the door and a large desk further back right near the outside windows. The desk was clean except for a single pen and a small folder of papers. Kit added another one to the desk, then stepped back and looked at Heart.
He paused.
"What?" Heart asked after an awkward moment.
"Oh, yes, sorry I am so used to people just telling me immediately what they would like with an air of superiority." He chuckled as if he found it amusing. Heart felt bad for the guy.
Kit was genuinely kind. "What would you like to drink or eat?" Kit said with an extremely charming smile.
Kit was so polite Heart couldn't help but grin.
"Just some water is fine. I don't need anything else, thank you."
Kit smiled back, nodded and left quietly.
Heart looked around the room. A gentle curiosity of what his job was and how he had ended up in the Executive's office on his first day it all played out in loops of wonderment in his mind. It made him anxious. He felt like he was pausing in anticipation; he wanted to sit, but knew that even though the couch looked comfy, it would do him no good, when he was this nervous.
He set down his visitor's badge and his small black bag with his lunch in it on the couches, soft black leather seat then walked over to the window nearest the desk.
'I wonder if the boss is a soft old man who wants to impart his wisdom on all newcomers.' Maybe it was the guy who had been rudely interrupted by that asshole Saint during the interview. Heart had liked him.
'He had kind eyes and a smile that seemed to be bemused by life. I think it would be very nice to have a boss like him.'
"The view from here really is amazing! This boss is so nice to let someone small like me see the view from here" Heart sighed happily, feeling extremely content.
"Yes, it is!" said a familiar voice behind him.
Heart shivered and froze in place. 'Oh god, I thought we weren't going to run into each other. The building is so big, how did this happen!'
Heart stepped back with a nervous chuckle.
"What are you doing here?" He snapped, then clamped his mouth.
'He had to go ahead and say what he was thinking out loud didn't he.. Why did he always do that.' It was business hours and his first day he should be civilized to other employees, even a jerk like him.
Besides Saint was always dressed head to toe in overpriced luxury items which meant this was a man he shouldn't cross ever ... Not just on his first day.
"I came to admire the view." Saint said, his eyes gazing across Heart. Seemingly caressing him without touch.
Heart shivered.
Heart decided to stand his ground. Guys like this would push him around any chance they got if he didn't show that he wouldn't let them. He put on a charming smile and did his very best to try to sound as self-important as he could.
"Do you need anything?? Or...?"
Saint chuckled. "Oh, yes, I think I do."
Heart slid his right hand in his pocket and cleared his throat.
"I came for the view because I needed to see." Saint purred.
Heart bristled.
"I think the boss will be back soon. Where we are about to have a meeting together. A rather pertinent one." Heart stated with an air of superiority.
"So."
"If it's not rather important, can you please wait to speak with him about whatever you need, until we are finished," Heart cleared his throat.
Saint nodded along with everything he said with great interest. Then smiled darkly and took a step towards him.
"Please..." Heart watched him nervously, feeling like he had lost all confidence with that one movement.
Saint took another step forward, Heart observed, and knew that if Saint were to keep walking, he would impede on Heart's personal bubble.
"Outside the room." He darted his eyes and eyebrows towards the door, his words were haughty and brave. The slight jitter to his arms gave him away too easily and Saint seemed to pick up on it.
Saint smiled and stepped closer towards him.
Heart backed up a little.
"Do you, ah, need something?" Heart asked, licking his lips nervously and Saint took another two steps towards him. Heart looked down to make sure his zipper was up. It was, but he covered his crotch just in case. Saint closed the last distance between them and leaned forward.
Heart closed his eyes, he leaned back further to evade Saint, his heart felt like it was going to pound hard enough until he felt the same way he would if he were falling,
'Wait... No, that sensation was real! He really was falling.' He fell so far back trying to escape that he really had no other place than the hard desk behind him. He reached back to try to catch himself on the desk so that he wouldn't fall too hard, then shut his eyes and braced himself for the pain.
He still hit down hard, but not as hard as he thought he would. He smiled.
Well, that wasn't too bad after all. He thought with relief, then opened his eyes and froze again.
Saint was less than two inches from his face, his arm wrapped around Hearts waist, supporting his back, he smirked charmingly at Heart.
Heart's imagination went into overdrive.
'What if Saint asked him if he was alright? Or apologized sweetly asking him if he was hurt, if he needed anything to feel better? What if Saint was about to say those very words? What if he offered to make him feel better if he wasn't alright?' Heart's pulse quickened at that idea.
The first thing that actually came out of Saint's mouth was not something Heart ever in a million years expected or could even have predicted.
"Well, you were half right, your boss won't be back soon, he's already right here." Saint used a single finger and gestured to himself meaningfully.
Heart's eyes widen in shock. 'Shiii... You're My Boss! The ass from the other day was his boss!
