The man on the top of the dragon watched as the dragon destroyed anything set in front of him. There was a boy tied up on the ground and the man whispered, “Below” to his dragon.
The dragon breathed out a bit of his fire and it only managed to hit the boy in the leg as he had rolled away. His dragon’s head reared back as if he had caused himself pain.
“What are you doing?” The man asked. “You know she asked that we destroy everything here if we are to win this war.”
The dragon looked at him exasperatedly. I can’t hurt the boy. He told him telepathically.
“Well, why not?” He asked annoyed.
He’s one of us. The dragon replied.
The man jerked back as if he had been slapped across the face. “You’re kidding. You know how rare it is to find one of our kind, and we just happen to find one?"
I am not. He knew he wasn’t. Dragons were extremely loyal animals and it almost physically hurt them to hurt someone that was even distinctly connected to the dragons.
“Alright. Jump off the wall and I’ll grab him.” He told the dragon.
The dragon dropped from the wall with a loud thump that rumbled all the ground around. He jumped from the dragons back by sliding down his head: the only way he could get off the dragon without hurting himself.
He approached the boy and noticed that he was a lot smaller than he had thought he would be, and he had an angry burn on his leg from the dragon. As he approached, he noticed out of the corner of his vision that a bunch of animals had been set free.
A deer ran right by the kid and kicked him in the head. The man watched as the boy went limp on the ground and a spot of blood came through his dirty matted hair. His dragon came to the aid of the boy and kept the animals from trampling him.
When he got closer, he picked the kid up and realized that he was a lot lighter than he thought he would be. He picked the kid up with ease and felt every single rib that the kid had through his loose shirt.
Did they feed him at all? He thought.
The dragon let one of his wings drop to the ground and the man climbed onto the wing. He lifted his wing back up, allowing him to walk easily to his back. As soon as he settled himself and the kid on his back, the dragon took off.
Are you sure you have him? I can’t feel him at all like I can feel you.
“I’m sure. He’s just extremely skinny. He’s probably not heavy enough to be able to press down on your scales. You know Mrs. Ranae probably won’t be happy that we haven’t completed our mission.”
Yes, but we found something even more valuable than that.
“That’s true.” He said.
