Midway through our walk we had to take a break, because I was too tired to keep moving. We sat down a bench in front of a store.
“I’m s-sorry. I’m slowing us d-down.” I said entangling my fingers.
“Don’t be. It doesn’t bother me.” He said smiling at me.
“I’m s-still sorry.”
He sighed and stood up. “You ready to keep going?” He said picking up the bags.
I nodded and got up. I was going to make it the rest of the way no matter what!
By the time we made it back I was sweaty and it felt like my legs would give out at any moment. I plopped down on his sofa and leaned my head back. I heard Damon moving around in one of the bedrooms before I heard his steps get louder.
“All you have to do if unpack and you can say that you have officially moved in.” He said as he sat down in the chair across from me.
“Th-thank you for a-all of this.” I said and looked up at him.
“You don’t have to thank me, Max. Anyone would have taken you in if they saw how those guys treated you.” He said as he leaned back.
“If you…If you want m-me to, I can p-pay rent. I just don’t w-want to live h-h-here without contributing a-anything.” I mumbled
“Can you cook?” He asked
“Um… not very w-well but I guess s-so.” I knew where this was going.
“Then you can make breakfast and dinner. That’s how you’ll contribute.” He smiling at me.
“Uh okay, I c-can do that.” I said sighing. The exhaustion from today was really kicking in.
“You won’t start cooking until you’re all healed though.” Damon said. I just nodded my head as I laid down on the couch. I closed my eyes but tried to will myself not to fall asleep.
“I’m going to go and make supper.” Damon said and I just grumbled a response. I heard him get up and make his way to the kitchen.
After a few minutes I just let the darkness consume and I fell into a deep sleep.
I ended up at the same place I was at the night before. For a moment I was confused until I saw the three boys making their way over to me. My body started to shake uncontrollably as they pinned me down once again.
I heard a muffled voice calling out to me but my mind was to foggy to recognize whose voice it was. “Wake up! Max wake up! Its just a dream!” Someone was shaking me as I opened my eyes I saw icy blue eyes staring back with a worried gleam in them.
I shook my, trying to clear my foggy thoughts and then my memory of the dream came back. I looked at him fear in my eyes as I remember what happened in the dream.
“It’s okay Max it was all just a dream.” Damon said trying to comfort me.
“But it wasn’t a dream. It actually happened. Please don’t let them do that to me again.” I said as I lunged into his arms. I needed the comfort of some one’s arms around me.
“I won’t ever let that happen to you, ever again.” I nodded my head as my fear started to disperse.
“Thanks, Damon,” I said as I pulled away and sat back down on the couch.
“Foods done, just thought I’d tell you because I’m gonna go get me some.” He stood up and walked to the kitchen.
I lost my appetite but I’ll probably be hungry later as long as Damon doesn’t eat it all. That last thought made me laugh.
