I didn't realize I had fallen asleep, I didn't try to. The soft grass and the wind was comforting. When I wake up, we are all back in the car. I look out the window and there are a bunch of different houses. They are all so pretty, some are blue, or white, or other colors.
"Oh good you are awake. We couldn't wait for you to wake up, its already 3:45 we will be at their house soon. Did you have a good day?" I nodded, "That's good, I will let the family introduce them selves. Do be warned that the boy isn't normal." I don't bring up the fact that I over heard this. "He isn't bad, and hopefully you two can get along. His birthday is tomorrow, so try and have some fun. He should be able to teach you new things. I also asked that they do not treat you two like siblings because it will take you a bit to adjust. Since you don't have a name, he or his parents might give you one." Mr. Jackson just smiles at me.
"Sir, what is the code for the gate?" Mr. Luck looks back at us, and Mr. Jackson is holding up fingers. Mr. Luck looks away and then there is beeping sounds. After about a minute we go through the gate and up to the drive way. The house is white, and has flowers in the front of it. Mr. Jackson gets out of the car and walks to my side. I grab my book, and the bag is not with me. When Mr. Jackson opens my door, he has the bag in his hand. We walk up to the front of the house, he rings the little door bell.
After a minute a woman comes to the door. "Nice to see you Jack," He nods, then she looks at me. "Hello, and who are you?" I look at my feet, and say hello. "So Jack, she doesn't have a name?... Oh, well, come on in." We follow her in the house. "You are a bit late Jack. Anyway its time for dinner. Is Luke not coming in?"
"No ma'am, I actually can't stay. I'm sorry, I will come and visit later." Mr. Jackson gives the lady a hug and then heads back towards the door.
"Well, lets go eat." We walk into the room where everyone is at, there is a man and a boy waiting for us. "This is my son Leo, and my husband. Let's eat and then we can figure out what we can call you?'
We all ate the meal in silence. After we finish, the woman introduces herself, "I am Chloe Woods, and my husband is Tobias Woods. So... Leo what do you think we should name her?"
"Well, I was reading a book earlier about a princess who lived in Russia. Her name was Anastasia, why don't we call her that?" The boy looks content, I feel as if he read my mind cause I kinda wanted that to be my name.
"I like it, very fitting for a young lady who is getting a new life." Mr. Woods looks at me, "Do you like that name?" I nod, "Ok, Anastasia it is." Then he looked at Leo, "Go take her to your room, me and your mother need to talk."
Me and Leo got up and walked out of the room. I had followed him up some stairs and down a hallway into a room. The room was painted a light gray color, there was two beds in there. "So I was told that you would be sharing my room with me, mom told me it was because we didn't have enough rooms, which is a lie, because she and dad both have an office, plus there is like 3 guest rooms, and then my brother and sister are rarely here." He keeps looking at me. After a minute he walks over to me and gives me a hug. "I know a bit of what happened, you aren't a toy ok. If I am the only one you trust that's ok, I'm not gonna hurt you. Please don't think that you are meant to be played with. I know I'm only a little boy, who by others standards is weird. But I'm not gonna treat you like an object like others would. Your not my sister, so please don't try and take that role. My sister left, just like how your brother left. I won't leave, we are gonna be best friends. And I'll help you in school cause I really hate going there. People bully me, call me names." The boy is crying, I can hear it in his wavering voice. All I can think to do is hold him back. I don't know what I'm supposed to do but for some reason this seems correct.
"Ok, Leo. But I hope you know, I don't really know anything. I can't read, and my writing looks like scribbles. I don't wanna hold you back." I stand there trying to comfort him.
"Thank you. I appreciate it. And honestly, most people our age don't. You should be in the same class as me I hope. But based off what mom said you are a year younger than me. But since summer is next week and I rarely go to school they will probably hold me back. So over summer I can teach you. Plus in my classes I'm ahead, and I still get bullied by those in and above my class. When I have read books that are like, middle school level. So don't worry you won't hold me back. It's already 4:45 dad should be leaving now. Are you tired, or do you wanna play?"
"Leo, you both should get to sleep. Your birthday is tomorrow and I'm not gonna deal with a grouchy boy. Would you be a good boy and get your jammies on and give her a pair to use?" She looked at him and then looked at me. "I know it's been a long day, and tomorrow will be long too. Get some sleep." Before she spoke I didn't even know that she was behind us. It kind of scared me a little. Then she walked away.
Leo handed me a shirt and some shorts, "The bathroom is across the hall." I walked out and changed in the bathroom, when I came back he had taken my clothes and put it in the bin with his clothes. "Mom will probably go shopping for you soon. But for now you can wear my clothes." Then he turned off the big light above us and a lamp on the table besides his illuminated half the room. "Your bed is that one, there is a night light in here some where, and then the bed with the lamp next to it is mine." He went over to the lamp and turned off the light. Then near the door a little light turned on. "The night light turns on when there isn't any light in the room." Then he turned the lamp back on. "Go ahead and crawl into bed, then I'll turn off the lamp." I crawled into bed, and he turned off the lamp. From the light of the night light I can see his bed and the door. "Good night Anastasia."
"Good night Leo." I feel so afraid. I can't help crying in the pillow. I'm not trying to be loud, but I can't help it.
"Hey, come over here if your scared." I get out of the bed and walk to his. "It's ok to be afraid, but don't cry. I'm here ok." He moved over in the bed and I laid down next to him. "It's ok, I'm here." He puts his arm around me and I do find it comforting. It's been a while since I slept in the same room as someone. This is all new and it terrifies me, but at least I guess Leo can be my first support and friend. I'll help him as best I can.
"Ok, good night Leo." I'm still crying but at least now I'm calming down. After a bit we are both sound asleep.
