Rory had forgotten what clean felt like. He was lighter and ready for anything. The bright lights of the compound still bothered his eyes and often caused him to squint, but the rest of him felt amazing. He was ready to run, to fight, and to fuck. Now that he knew what he was, he wanted to see what his body was really capable of.
If he understood what had happened in the meeting correctly, he and Benjamin would eventually be killing other vampires with Emer, and he was ready for it. The idea of running one of those creatures down and driving a blade through it—or slicing pieces off of it, one by one, just to see how the blood sprayed... Rory shivered in delight.
Lieutenant Stevenson was walking ahead of him to his right, and Rory caught a whiff of his cologne and the light hint of ham that he'd come to know as human. He had to stop himself from stepping closer, not wishing to get shot. He desperately hoped that Emer would feed them as the General had suggested, otherwise he was not sure what kind of impulse control he really had. He found his increasing desire to harm the members of Lieutenant Stevenson's unit disturbing and it was becoming quite clear to him that the hungrier he felt, the more violent his thoughts became.
He pictured gripping Stevenson by the neck and sliding his nails in, like a knife puncturing soft leather. They grew longer and sharper now, it would be easy to sink them into his skin...
"Where are we?" Benjamin asked, snapping Rory out of it.
"You've been moved to new quarters, though you'll still remain under observation," the Lieutenant replied in his dull monotone voice.
Stevenson stopped and positioned himself outside a room labeled "Asset 91." Rory was irked that they insisted on using their numbers instead of their names, but when he stepped into his room, he decided not to complain.
There was a bed now, a small washroom, and even a nightstand and lamp. The familiar examination chair didn't escape his attention, however, and neither did the large viewing window. It seemed that while they were permitted some comforts, they were not allowed privacy. He supposed he did not blame them.
If he were a human with new vampires under his watch, he'd keep them wallowing in their own filth and throw away the key card. Fuck them.
"Dinner will be delivered shortly," Emer said before leaving.
Rory's eyes followed her, the need to stay with her was stifled only by his hunger and the memory of being shocked.
Benjamin was escorted to the room across from him and they both took to pacing while they waited for dinner.

Benjamin clawed the meat off his plate, snarling. He'd done his best to hide his hunger while he'd been with Emer and their armed escorts, but when he found himself inching toward Sergeant Ivanov, he had to pierce the flesh of his palm with his own nails to stop himself. The pain was just enough to distract him until he was behind the closed door of his new cell.
He'd watched in awe as his skin knit itself back together. Not wishing to waste anything, he licked the blood off his palm, and was surprised to find that it didn't taste the same as he remembered. It wasn't good, but he didn't care. He'd do it again, regardless.
His heart sank as he watched Emer leave but his sadness was soon forgotten once he heard the echo of footsteps in the hallway. The rich aroma of blood and human flesh trickled in and taunted him. He was at his door waiting when the food window slid open. The moment he saw the plate, he tore it out of the human's hand.
"Hey! Watch it!" the man shouted. Benjamin growled in return.
His teeth sank into the meat and he moaned in sweet satisfaction. Brown eyes and thick-rimmed glasses came to mind and Benjamin thought about how nice it would be if his teeth were sinking into the warm flesh of the man's jugular. It would be so much better than his cold, butchered dinner. Benjamin imagined hot blood spilling all over his face as he bit him, and the imagery caused his jaw to ache. He fell back against his door and slid down to the floor, gobbling down the rest of his meal.
