Lost in a labyrinth without an apparent exit, Aaron sprinted down dead-ended hallways that were dark and narrow. The ceiling was partially tumbledown, and the rain fall straight through the giant holes in it. At times, the only source of light was the lightning outside that shone through the dilapidated roof. As it rained he tried to avoid the streams of water pouring down, but it was pointless, he was soaking wet at that point.
Aaron hit another dead end. He was at the end of another narrow dark hallway. He thought for a second, there was no way he was going to escape that way, so he looked at the only possible exit available, the holes in the ceiling. A thing most people didn't know about Aaron, was that he was a great basketball player. He got it from his dad, or so his dad said. The truth was Aaron could jump, and I'm talking Wilt Chamberlain vertical jump kind of hops. He stood underneath one of the giant holes, and thought he would surely fit through there, hell you could probably fit two of his through there. The cascading rain hit him in the face with a tremendous force as he looked up to his only possible escape.
Without any more hesitation, Aaron jumped as high as he could, grabbing on to a pair of wooden beams that stuck-out. The wood was wet and feeble, one of them cracked right away, leaving him hanging from only one hand. He didn't let himself fall however, but instead he did an effortful pull-up and was able to catch a better grip, finally coming through the hole, and to the outside.
It took him a second to catch his balance, the roof felt slippery and uneven. He tottered with difficulty using at times his hands to catch his weight. He moved very carefully, taking soft and careful steps. This was a very old roof, he couldn't afford running on it despite how much he wanted to do just that. He walked cautiously, making a great effort to not come down through the week roof. Suddenly he took a misstep, making his foot go right through a hole. He almost fell, but was able to stay on the outside.
At first glance, he had been held in some kind of rundown and abandoned factory complex, with many buildings just like the one's roof he crept on. As Aaron came to the edge, he tried to make sense of what he was seeing, the rain brought with it a steamy haze that mixed with the drugs that still lingered in his brain made it all the more confusing. He didn't think there was any other way down, he had to jump.
Aaron had never felt that kind of pain before. It was a shooting ache that traveled from his legs, and concentrated on his tailbone. He had fallen on his legs, instead of rolling however, his feet absorbed the full force of the impact. There was no time for that however, he had to run, and run fast. As Aron came out through a hole on the fence, he tired flagging down the few cars that transited on the desolated road. Nobody would stop in the rain to pick up a stranger in the middle of a storm, that much he understood. After the first few cars passed him, the whole road was filled with a dismal bleak emptiness, reminiscent of the place he was held hostage in, except of course for the corpses, and the terrorists.
If he wanted to make it out of this whole thing alive, he had to put some distance between the terrorists and himself, so all could do was run, run as fast as he could, run down a road he was unfamiliar with and a road he did not know where it led to, but just run far. Then, like sent from god, that bright, blinding, unmistakable red and white flashing light appeared in the distance, followed by the squealing sound of a siren.
Aaron dropped to his knees when he saw the police car. The officer approached the young man slowly and cautiously, with a hand on his holstered pistol, and the other one stretched out like making a stop sign with it.
-"Are you alright?" -The police officer asked.
-"Please, they kidnapped me, and they also kidnapped this lady I was working for, they hung her from meat-hooks!" -Aaron explained rapidly and inarticulately.
-"Who kidnap you?" -The cop said as he let go off his pistol, and grabbed the young man with both hands to get him up.
-"Michael, we have to go get Michael before they get to him!" -Aaron said firmly.
20 minutes later...
-"Are you sure you don't need any medical attention?" -The police officer asked as he drove the car.
-"no, we need to get there quick!" -Aaron replied stoically.
-"You know this will be a lot easier if you just give me an address." -The cop continued.
-"I told you, it was saved on my phone, but they took it away, I just know how to get here." -Aaron answered. -"Shouldn't you call for backup or something?" -Aaron asked phlegmatically.
-"Nah, I'm just gonna go check it out, as far as I'm concerned, no crime has been committed yet. By the way, I'm officer Kane. What is your name?" -The cop asked trying to sound amicable.
-"Am Aaron." -Aaron replied with that persistent apathy.
-"It's right here at this gate, turn right!" -Aaron said, as his heart began to race.
-"Do you know the code to get in?" -The cop asked as he reached out of his window to punch in the electronic code.
-"#9999" -Aaron replied.
-"Typical!" -Officer Kane expressed as he punched in he code, and drove through.
Once they arrived at the front entrance, they both noticed that the door was wide open. The trees planted on the front porch swayed with the strong stormy wind, and the relentless rain that only seemed to get heavier.
-"Yeap, there is definitely something going on!" -Officer Kane exclaimed, as he turned the engine off. -"Wait in the car kid!"-He said as he exited the car, and began approaching the house. He said something to the dispatcher through his radio, but he was to far, and the storm was to loud for Aaron to hear any of it. Aaron followed the officer with his gaze as he crossed the threshold and stepped inside the house, with his weapon drawn, and careful steps.
Suddenly, Aaron noticed that officer Kane came to a standstill and raised his hands up to his face, as if pointing at upstairs something with his gun, but in brutal display of violence, he was hit in the head with something Aaron had to assume was a shot, as blood spattered all over and out of officer Kane's head, and sent him flying out of sight and onto the floor.
Horrified, Aaron opened the police car, and ducking down ran for cover away from the vehicle, he found a few shrubs tall enough to hide behind, and desperately threw himself behind them. He took a peek, barely looming over the shrubs, and keeping himself hidden as much as possible. As he expected, two armed and masked men came out of the house, to check the car. It was official, he had to go get Michael!
