Luce left soon after breakfast and Sato leaves for class a few hours after him. Due to both of their surprisingly light schedules in the morning, Blake and Dewi opt to just relax watching movies. It's soon after Satoshi leaves that Blake catches Dewi staring at him.
"What?"
"Hmm…?"
"You're staring."
"Oh, sorry. I was just trying to figure out what happens to you. Because, Cronos is such a playboy compared to you. He obviously had no reservations flirting with me. He can't be more than two years into your future and yet you don't strike me as someone who would act like that."
Why does my future self like torturing me so much? It's only a matter of time before Dewi realizes that I'm not a playboy, but was actually expressing my honest feelings for this shapeshifter. It's hard enough to hide it as it is…..
"I don't really know what changes. Luce and I try to live as normal lives as possible so I'm not supposed to reveal future events to my past. It's one of Luce's rules. I might not follow it as much as he thinks I do, but that still isn't information the current me has."
"Well, I'm really curious. Can we ask one of your future selves?"
"You could try, but I don't know how long you'll have to wait to meet one next. I don't have any control over my powers. It activates due to strong emotions. Of course, even if you're present while I've switched with my future self, there's no guarantee I'll answer your questions." I would never want to torture myself enough to tell him the truth, right? I could never bare someone as amazing as Dewi knowing about my pathetic crush on him. Especially since it seems it doesn't go away in the future. They continue talking but Blake successfully steers the conversation away from the actions of his future self.
After lunch Dewi starts getting ready for a meeting about a potential new contract with a small clothing company. Blake decides to try making some progress on his latest literary find. Just as Dewi finishes getting ready and sits down to wait for his manager to pick him up, Blake's phone goes off. It's a reminder alarm labeled only 'call Luce.' Blake does so immediately.
The Lucius that answers is panicked and wants to know what's wrong. Blake quickly makes up an excuse for the call. He can tell that something isn't right with his brother. Luce's refusal to answer his questions only confirms his suspicions. What surprises Blake is when Luce breaks down, begging him to not let Sato see him in such a state.
Now, over the years, Dewi has become decent at reading people and even more so with Blake. He can only tell what's going on from their side of the phone, but the angered aura his roommate is emitting would cause a hardened murderer to beg for his mommy. Dewi remembers that Blake said his powers are activated by strong emotions. It would be fine if it's a future version, but since he said he doesn't have control of it, a younger version might appear. Dewi grabs one of Blake's drinks for him to have before the hatred filled atmosphere gets any worse.
Dewi hands him the bottle as Blake hears the one word that lowers the temperature in the room by ten degrees; 'yes'. "Hand her the phone." Blake's voice could give someone frostbite. He gestures for Dewi to wait before he continues talking in that chilled voice. "Esma Grimwell, you have harassed and even tried to manipulate my brother not just once, but three times now. That really isn't smart of you, little girl. Up until now, I've only been reporting the incidents to the proper departments, but something you need to know is I am unbelievably protective of my brother. This is your only warning. If I find out about this happening again, I will take the matter into my own hands. Now, give my brother back his phone and leave him alone." Blake accepts the drink offered by Dewi. He stares thoughtfully at Dewi as he takes a sip. They have a wordless conversation as Luce takes back his phone on the other side of the call. They come to an agreement before Blake even finishes the first sentence. Blake focuses on Dewi's current appearance, changed earlier due to not needing to hide his powers, as he tells Luce what the person picking him up looks like. By the time he says goodbye, Blake has a soft smile gracing his face.
"My manager just texted me to let me know that he's here. I'll be back with Luce as soon as I'm done with my meeting. It shouldn't take long, so maybe an hour or so… You alright now?"
"Yeah, thanks for grabbing my meds." Dewi grabs his keys and starts heading for the door. "Wait, do you have any sunglasses?" Dewi turns back around.
"Yeah, why?"
"Wear them. It might help Luce mentally if you're wearing some protection. Also, if you see his eyes glow, for your own safety, don't look directly into his eyes under any circumstances."
