After about a month Damon became less clingy and gave me a little more wiggle room. It was nowhere near the amount of freedom I needed it to be but progress is progress. Unfortunately Cult Leader was still suspicious. Based on her own experiences she knows you don't just accept this. Lucas just mostly ignored me. I was fine with that.
One night we were all seated at the table in the kitchen when I made a step toward getting to know Lucas. She seemed more.... dark? then Damon. I don't know. There's just something about her I don't like but I cant figure out what it is. Currently Id take Damon over Lucas any-day but the need to get out of here made me put the hesitation aside. Cult Leader had made beans and rice for diner. I was fine with it. When Lucas tapped out, “I don't like beans.” Onto the table in mores code. Wow, these people are full of surprises. I checked Damon’s and Cult Leader’s reactions. They didn't react. They must not know mores code.
I typed back, “Why not? I like them.”
Lucas stared at me for a second. Then typed back, “You know mores code?”
“I got bored one summer.”
“You're pretty interesting.”
“Then why wont you talk to me?”
“Because you're Damon's. I lost the games.” Maybe she isn't as bad as I thought? Then why are the hairs on the back of my neck standing up?
“If you don't want beans and rice. Then what do you want?”
“I want a pb&j sandwich.” Without saying a word I got up and made it. I'm slightly surprised I didn't get tackled on my way to the cabinet. It's right by the front door. Damon was ready to though. She was watching me closely. If I can got closer to my goal with a pb&j. Then I'm going to do it. Even if I cant shake the feeling that she is just plain bad. I set the plate in front of Lucas as she stared at me in amusement. I walked out with a quick wave to Damon. Hopefully I can even out the score and make her less jealous. Apparently it didn't work because I could feel Damon’s jealous gaze on me as I left.
In the days that passed I found myself becoming an acquaintance with Lucas. I never really got to close because she just felt too dark. We made simple conversation once in awhile. During one conversation she thought me the basics of knot tying. While I gave her the basics of lock picking. Damon only hovered in the background in an almost protective manor when I talk to Lucas. I found it slightly annoying at times but at other times I appreciated it. Her presence was sometimes calming.
