Pit lead the way to the big house that currently holds her father. “He should be home, that old man. Gods, I haven't caught up with him in a spell….. I’ve been so busy with work…..” She trailed off.
“Mhm.” Nik said then leaned over to Porthos. “Does she do this a lot?” He asked
“I heard that. And yes, I do trail off a lot.” Pit harrumphed an crossed her arms as she lept over the steps an onto her father's porch.
“Yeah don’t be surprised that's just how she is.” He said shrugging.
“Okay. It’s been years since first I met him... I wonder if he remembers me?” Nik muttered to himself.
“Well, we’re about to find out.” Pit said and she knocked on the door. And elder male opened the door. He had two striking violet eyes a wispy silver hair that used to be a platinum blonde.
“Wh-What do you want?”
“Hey, dad. How long has it been?”
“P-Pit?! I-I-..... Your mother was right…..”
“Sorry for not visiting you after all those years. I-I was afraid of what you would say….”
“It's okay. I was confused as well.” Marks pulled his daughter into a hug. “Your siblings are no better at visiting. You are the first to visit.”
“Yeah. I had no idea you were the one who had asked to leave years ago! The kid you went to talk to is here to see you now…..” Pit sidestepped to reveal Nik.
“Hey, there old man. It’s been a few years.” Nik exclaimed smiling.
“Why, hello, young Nikolus. How are you?” Marks asked, stroking his stubbled chin.
“You love doing that don’t you?” Nik said jokingly. “And I’m fine Marks. Except for the fact that I’m basically a wanted man now.” Nik replied.
Marks chuckled softly. “Yeah, that would be a reason to not be happy.
“Marks do you mind if we speak in private?” Nik asked.
“Yes and please, it would call me Karkus, that would be splendid.”
“Ok, Karkus,” Nik said.
“Well, If you guys want privacy, I and Pit will go,” Porthos said leading Pit out of the room.
“Are they gone Karkus?” Nik asked.
“You forget, I am an old man, Nikolus. I don't remember who you are speaking to me about.” Karkus said as he hobbled over to his chair. He sat down in his rocking chair and motioned for Nik to sit across from him on the couch.
“Porthos, Pit, and those other two. You know the spies from the war.” Nik asked suddenly getting serious.
“First of all, Pit is not a spy. I should know, I spy on her daily. She works around the Alpha house and the village. Even if she needs something, she sends someone else to run her errands.”
“I did not mean that they’re the spies. I remember that we had two spies in the village from before that battle started that’s why the empire almost won. I know people like her. She wouldn’t be a spy, nor would she ever be if she knew it was wrong or if it would hurt her people.” Nik responded.
“You’ve got that right,” Karkus said with a soft and hearty chuckle.
“ I can’t really say the same thing about Porthos. All I can say about him is he’s earnest and seems like a good heartfelt guy but I’m guessing he’d do it for a lot of money.” Nik commented.
“All I remember about them was one of their names and since you were still in the village at that point do you recognize the name Mithrid?” Nik asked.
“No. Not really.” Karkus said, trying to jog his old and fading memory.
“That’s the only name I remember from our spies that were here. Unless… wait has anyone left the village last night?” Nik asked.
“Well, both of my twin daughters Kudu and Saku left on a scouting run and they haven’t returned yet.” He replied.
“Hmmm. I don’t want to just point fingers at anyone, my reputation here is already bad enough, cause they think I killed a scouting team.” Nik muttered pacing around nearly bumping into a small table.
“Oh, that was a few nights ago. I’m talking about this last night.” Karkus said with a chuckle as he rocked back an forth in his chair. “You don't realize it, but you’ve been out cold for about a week. Our villages borders have been hiding your presence, and Pit, bless her soul, had been waiting to interrogate you, since she lost some good scouters. That's why her sisters offered to scout instead of hunting like they normally do. We need more scouts than food, that's why you’re safe here. Our security is top notch.
“No, if the spies aren’t here and no one's left the place since I’ve come here it means they already know I’m here so I need to leave. But before I do that we should warn Pit first.” Nik said thinking.
“That logic makes no sense. No one BUT you has come by. The only people who have left are the scouters and the hunters. Like I said, our security is top notch. No one leaves without being noticed by our guards. They all know who is supposed to leave, and if anyone tries to leave without permission, they are taken away for fraud.” Karkus shook his head.
“I’m guessing you don’t know about project double U, do you?” Nik asked.
“Project Double U was abandoned a long time ago, son. That's old news.” Karkus said in a nonchalant voice. “Urndar died before he could complete his project, so they stored the plans away deep in a vault while his workers abandoned everything about the project. To this day, all of the old workers deny every working on said project. Recently the vault was broken into. No one knows who did it, or how they got away with it without being detected.”
“My brother did that about a year ago and re-initiated the project. Now, thanks to him, I’m being hunted by the army and every bounty hunter in the Isles of Trickery.” Nik replied
Karkus stood up and made his way to the kitchen. He grabbed two thermoses from the fridge and two cups from a shelf. “Hm. Thanks for clarifying that. Tea?” He asked, pouring some of the cold liquid into a teacup.
“Ah… sure. I’d love some.” Nik replied.
Karkus smiled and brought the tea out to the living room.
“Should we bring Pit and Porthos into this? After all, she’s the alpha now.” Nik asked looking at where Karkus was coming from.
“Obviously! Withholding impurdinate information from the Alpha is a crime punishable by death!” Karkus exclaimed.
“Alright, then I’ll go grab them. Since they’re still waiting outside.” Nik said getting up. He walked over towards the door and felt for the knob opening the door he looked over at Pit and Porthos standing to the right.
“Come inside we have things to tell you that is very important,” Nik told Pit and Porthos before walking back inside.
Pit nodded her head and made her way inside.”Hey dad.”
Karkus smiled and nodded to his daughter. “Hello, daughter. How is work going.”
“Fine. So, what is this “info” you need to tell us?” She asked, sitting in the chair next to her father.
Nik, you do the honors.” Karkus told him. “Okay. For one, you all know me, an, well Pit you may have already figured this out but my last name isn’t orune…It’s Orean.” Nik started with.
“Okay, why do we need to know that?” Porthos asked, slightly amused.
“Because it means that I’m the crown prince of the capital,” Nik responded. “But that’s not the important part.”
“Okay, I don’t care. If anything, it makes you complete trash in my book. I hate anything to do with the capital.” Porthos said with a smirk.
“Well to make it worse, I was a general in the army that attacked this village about 3-4 years ago, which was when I met Karkus here,” Nik replied. “You might’ve heard of me before. I heard there was a rumor about my fighting habit. I’m known as the Blind Barbarian.”
“P9 Caliber.” Porthos said throwing his sphere into the air and when it came down it was the pistol, he pointed it at Nik and said: “Give me one good reason not to kill you right now, I give you 20 seconds.”
“Because then you won’t hear about project double U,” Nik replied staring straight at Porthos.
“And why should I care about that? And you have 12 seconds by the way.”
“Because if you don’t know all the facts then they’ll use it to wipe out this village and take control of the country,” Nik said still not looking away.
“You're lucky I’m in a good mood today or I would have shot you without warning. But lucky you.” He said grabbing a pistol holster from his bag and attaching it to his belt.
“Porthos… look me in my eyes.” Nik said to him.
“Why…?” He said slowly raising the pistol again.
Nik looked at Porthos slowly, his eyes turned silver.
Suddenly Porthos disappeared in a flash of silver.
“Now that my life isn’t in danger let’s get to the important stuff,” Nik said picking up the pistol.
“Well hello there.” A voice said in Nik's mind. “Would you be so kind as to bring him back?”
“Maybe when he’s not using you to try to kill or threaten me,” Nik said back to the pistol.
“You know I’m not an object. My mind is just in here.” The voice said back.
“Still you are in a weapon that turns into more weapons so even if you’re a person you’re in a weapon,” Nik said back.
“Now Pit we need to tell you about project double U.” Nik said getting annoyed.
Inside of Nik’s mind
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Why is it so cramped in here? I thought I was alone…” The voice asked.
Another voice popped up a feminine one. “Because you’re not alone.”
“YEP! we all share the head of this young boy. It gets boring a lot.” said another. This one spoke in a masculine tone and it’s deep voice seemingly reverberating throughout his head.
“Oh, okay well I will be here for a short time. At least until this fucker gives my grandson his gun back.” He said with a growl.
“Hey now, don’t blame my brother. He was pointing the gun at this fellows’ face. He just did that out of self-defense. Nik isn’t a bad man, just cautious.” said the female voice.
“Yeah. He just met the man who practically led the army against us, so what do you expect him to do?”
“Well he didn’t lead it, but he did make a considerable effort into attacking. That is until he realized it was wrong. He was forced into the war because he was told that the wolf clans were disrespecting the gods. During the battle, he met Karkus and ended up saving him. That is how they know each other.” the deep voice responded.
“Hmph.” The voice said.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Back in the real world.
Pit cleared her throat. “HELLO?! NIKOLAUS?! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!” She practically shouted into his ear. She was waving her hands frantically in front of his face. She growled and slapped him across the face with enough force to wake him up from his trance.
“Sorry.” Nik apologized. “Anyways there was a project that was made from within the capital called project double U and it tested putting physical magic within people to make superweapons, of course, the tests didn’t go as planned and when the creator of the project died they canceled the project and vaulted it. That was the reason behind the end of the war about 5 years ago.” Nik said. “But due to my brother Thames, he brought up the project again and is instead of using magic itself he’s using magical objects to fuse people’s souls together creating the soldiers. I don’t know exactly how many there are but not over 12 of them. If he sicks them on the wolf villages they’ll kill every last one of you.” Nik finished.
“I see. This is big news. Kitah!” Pit shouted and a wispy figure appeared.
“Yes, alpha?” The figure asked in a feminine tone.
“Warn the guards about what we’ve just been enlightened. Call an emergency meeting. Harsher curfews and stricter guard protocols are effective immediately.”
“Yes ma’am!” The wisp then disappeared to go spread the news.
“Okay, I’ll ignore that, but good news for you. Remember that scouting pack from about a week ago?” Nik asked.
“Yes. I remember vividly what happened to them.” Pit said, crossing her arms.
“Well get ready for a surprise,” Nik said then his eyes glowed a bright silver hue…
Pit looked away with a disgusted face. “Don’t you dare pull your tricks on me. You’re already on thin ice.”
“Calm down,” Nik said and the room was filled with a bright light to where Pit could hear a bunch of yelling and a loud crash, the light faded to reveal right next to Nik were 5 people and Porthos all fallen on the ground.
“Here’s your scout troop.” Nik said
“Goddamnit, if you ever do that again, I will blow your fucking head off in a instant.” Porthos said, growling at Nik, yanking the pistol from Niks hand and sticking it in his holster then said to Pit, “If you need me, I’m going out of town for a while.”
“Porthos you started this by pointing that thing at my head.” Nik protested.
“Okay. Now Nik, you're coming with me to the meeting, as well as our scouters.”
