My lunges were on fire. They were burning and demanding air but it was too late to back out. I was so disoriented I couldn't tell which way was up anymore. Everything was fading farther and farther away and I couldn't stop it. There was nothing I could do. There was a faint splash above me. At least I think it was above me.
Someone’s arm looped around my waist and pulled me up toward the air. I was limp by then. As soon as I broke the surface I started to cough up water and replace it with air as fast as I could. I wrapped my arms and legs around the person. I was not letting go anytime soon. The person had dragged me through the water and carefully set me down on the ground. Right in the snow and everything. I probably should have felt colder laying in the snow but it was about the same temperature of the water. I kind of figured they'd just let me drown but I wasn't complaining. I managed to get enough air into my lunges to be able to focus. Not enough to get up and run or anything but I could focus on the things happening around me. A voice was yelling at someone.
“What were you thinking Lucas! She could have died! That was a stupid half-ass attempt at getting her off the dock!” Lucas is the sisters name then.
“I didn't know she would actually jump in!” I assumed that was Lucas.
They went on fighting like that until the older female chimed in with orders, “Stop it both of you! Lucas get inside! Now! Damon get her inside before you both get freeze to death. You're both soaked in water.” There was an irritated grunt and some foot steps stomping away. A few seconds later a pair of arms picked me up like I weighed nothing. And I was too focused on breathing to put up much of a fight. I was also to cold to actually care. I opened my eyes a little and saw Damon. I could tell she was soaked as well. She must have been the one who jumped in after me. I passed out as soon as I felt her feet touch the porch. I was really tired.
