I lived my whole life seeing it go one way. I'd graduate high school, graduate college, get a job, get married, get a cute dog. But fate has a funny way of destroying any plans you make at any random moment. My house was a simple two story yellow house. In the middle of nowhere surrounded by miles of forest with a wrap around porch. I live here with my mom, dad, and twin sister Krista. It was the middle of fall about a month until school starts back up.
I was walking around outside in the yard enjoying the small drizzle of cool rain. When fate jumped screwed me over and made me trip over my own foot. (That's right, I blamed fate for my clumsiness.) Of course I landed face down in a puddle that was mostly mud. Muttering every curse word I could think of I pushed myself up out of the mud. I was about to stand up and storm into the house when my pointer finger hooked onto something in the mud. I pulled it out and studied it, even covered in mud it shined. I wiped it off as well as I could but my hands were also covered in mud.
It was a long silver chain necklace with a small stone dark blue heart hanging from it. With a metal skull on each side of the stone heart. It looked familiar and for some reason I couldn't put it down. My arm would not physically comply with the demand. I gave up on trying to drop it and carried the necklace into the house. One thing became clear to me as I look back now. If fate hadn't made me take the necklace in, I would have left it.
