She took a deep breath before pushing the door and running out.
Immediately after opening the door Thea was met with a guard, he turned around and after seeing that it was the prisoner and not the man, he immediately grabbed his sword from his scabbard but before he could pull out his blade, a knife was stabbed through his stomach, coming out his back.
Thea didn't wait to see if he was coming after her. DShe just ran as fast as her malnourished body could go. Turning a corner she came across two more guards.
Upon seeing her they started running toward her, calling for help whenever they came across another guard. The turned down another hallway identical; looking to the one she was on before. When she was taken prisoner she hadn't known where they were holding her. But now she could tell she was in the king's palace in the dungeons. She needed to find the stars that would lead her to the exit.
By now over ten guards were chasing her through the maze-like hallways of the dungeon. Once again turning another corner she came across a doorway which leads to a room with an opening to a staircase. she shut the door behind her and attempted to lock the door. But there was no lock. Quickly thinking on her feet, she grabbed the nearest chair and shoved it under the doorknob. A split second later came to the guards banging on the door trying to get.
Thea didn't spare them a second glance as she raced up the long winding stairs with didn't lead to the main floor but the top. The floor with the Kings bedchambers. This would also be the floor with most guards. Thea found a way to a hallway with windows lining the walls. trying to follow it to see if she could find an exit. Sadly before she could come across an exit the guards must have finally gotten through her makeshift block because they came through the same opening as she.
Once again she found herself running for her life, but what's new. Coming across a balcony, she made her decision. Thea walked onto the balcony and locked the grand doors before stepping to the surrounding railing.
Thea had come to terms with dying young a long time ago, but when she escaped his grasp, for a moment there, she thought she'd be able to have a second chance at life.
Thea climbed over the railing and was now dangling over what seemed to be the royal gardens. She couldn't die. Not like this. Not a frail, malnourished prisoner to a weak man.
Thea took the knife and started cutting her forearm writing down a message. Hopefully, the right person would see it and know what she meant.
And with that last act of service to her people and the cause, Thea jumped from the balcony, falling for only for a few seconds before hitting the ground and dying. Maybe if she had been healthier she could have survived, but she was only skin and bones. Her body couldn't withstand the shock of the impact.
"She was a prisoner for about a year down in the cells," A soldier informed the Lord standing before him, "She was under Lord Ainsworth's watch. She stole his knife, stabbed him and made a run for it before finally jumping off the balcony and died."
Another soldier nearby spits at the remains, "Good riddance I say."
The Lord nodded along to what they were saying until he noticed something on her arm, "What's that, on her right arm?"
The soldier leaned down and wiped the dried blood off her arm so that they could see what was etched int her skin, "Looks like gibberish to me."
The Lord disagreed, he knew exactly what that was. She had died to send him that message, and he wouldn't let it go to waste. He would tell his conspirators at once.
It was time to retrieve the boy.
