"Hurry up."
"I'm going I'm going," I rush to pull up my jeans and walk out of the bedroom," Why the hell are you waking me up this early anyway?"
Sam paused in shoving me down the hallway, "We're going to go out."
"I know that I mean where are we going?"
"That's a surprise," And with that, she pushed me down the hallway and stairs. When we made it to the foyer she stopped. I waited for her to get moving again but she didn't.
"What are we waiting for?" Sam looked away from me. She did that when she was lying or she was about to tell me something she knows I won't like.
"Well we're waiting for someone else"
"Ohh, Who?"
Before she can tell me, Jessica comes walking down the stairs.
"You guys ready to go?" She asks.
I look around, trying to see if she's talking to anyone else. Sadly she is not. I look at Sam and she gives me an apologetic shrug.
Sammy nods at Jessica and we were soon walking down and heading to her car. I pull Sally back a few paces so that we could talk without Jessica overhearing.
"Why are hanging out with Jessica all of a sudden?"
"She asked, I said yes."
"We've never spoken more than three words to her." Jessica brings around the car and we walk to it," And now she's asking us to hang out. It doesn't make sense."
"Listen, she invited me to lunch and I invited you." Sam shrugged off my hand, "Besides, it's a free lunch. And she's rich, so you know we're going somewhere nice"
"Wait if she invited us to lunch then why are we leaving the house at 7:00 am?"
"I don't know, let's go find out."
Eventually, Jessica grew suspicious as we had stopped walking to continue our inconspicuous conversation, so we walked the rest of the way to the car. I head to the back but Jessica stops me.
"Why don't you come to sit up front, I'm sure Sam here won't mind sitting in the back, Sam?"
Sam takes my place in the backseat, "Not at all."
I reluctantly get in the front seat. Jessica's car was very nice, no surprise there. Seeing as she was rich as fuck. Her parents were both CEO and COO of some entertainment company in Korea.
We drove for about a half an hour and, surprisingly, I didn't hear a peep out of Jessica. And she's pretty talkative no matter the time of day or her mood.
I didn't say anything, I liked the silence and I really wasn't up for conversating so early in the morning.
Eventually, we pull up at a very tall luxurious building, so tall I couldn't see the title. But when I step out of the car and see where we're at I nearly have a heart attack. We were at the four seasons hotel. This was way out of my pay range.
Jessica and Sam followed me and we began walking toward the front.
"Why are we at a Hotel?" Sam and I asked at the time.
"SPA DAY!!!" Jessica exclaimed excitedly, jumping up and down and grabbing my and Sam's arms to get us to return her excitement. Sam does, I merely move my knees so that I move up and down but my feet never leave the ground. It's too early for this shit.
We make our way into the Lobby and Jessica immediately heads for the elevator. We go up to the 12th floor and walk out into a lobby. The room was white themed, everything from the furnishing to the uniforms was all white. It burned my eyes initially, they eventually adjusted.
The woman at the counter walked up to us before we even stepped off the elevator.
"Ms. Holendale, did you have an appointment with us?"
Jessica nodded.
"The usual?"
Jessica nodded again.
"For your friends too?"
Once again, another nod.
"Alright, follow me," The woman led us down a hallway with several doors, "I'm sorry, our rooms only allow for two people at a time. So one of you will; have to take a separate room on your own."
Jessica beamed, "Oh that's fine. Sam, you don't mind going in alone do you?"
Sam shook her head, "No of course not," she walks into the room instructed and Jessica and I went into the room across.
The woman leads to a chair and sits me down. Jessica does the same. I get a towel wrapped around my hair and the esthetician-which I learned is what they are called- takes a cotton pad and wipes my face.
Afterward, a machine was put to my face that directed steam, and then a weird grainy cream was scrubbed onto my face. It hurt like a bitch. And then she started pinching my face. Apparently, it was to extract all my blackheads. I didn't know I had so many, she working at my face for what felt like hours.
But she made up for it when she massaged my face, "Hhmm," I hummed in appreciation.
Jessica giggled, "Feels nice, right?"
"Oh, shit!!!" I laughed, "I completely forgot you were here." I turned to look at her but the esthetician moved my face back to continue the message. I didn't complain.
Almost too soon, the message was over and a cold white face mask was put on my face, "We're going to leave this on for ten minutes."
I thought she would leave but the esthetician began to massage my scalp. It was very soothing. I felt like I could fall asleep.
Until Jessica started talking, "So what do you think?"
I hummed, "Yeah it's really nice." We were quiet for a moment, and then I asked, "Hey, why did you invite us to lunch?"
Jessica laughed, "Why wouldn't I?"
"Well, we've never really spoken before, and all of a sudden, you're acting all chummy with me and Sammy."
"What are talking about, me and Sam have been hanging out together for months."
I frowned, "What?"
"Yeah, we had an intro to calc class a couple months ago, been hanging out ever since. When I invited her, I suggested you come along. I want to get to know everyone in the sorority. And you seem to have a concrete wall surrounding you."
How could Sam never tell me any of this, I thought we were best friends. Did that title mean nothing to her? Apparently so.
"Sooo, you and Aiden. Anything happening there?"
I laughed, "No." Jessica sighed. And that was the end of that.
We finish up at the spa and Jessica takes us to some french restaurant I couldn't pronounce with a menu I couldn't read. But that didn't seem to matter.
Jessica ordered for us in almost perfect French. And it was a four-course meal, took us forever to get through. And during all this, I couldn't get a chance to ask Sam about her whereabouts.
I didn't want to admit it to myself but it had hurt a lot. To know the person you thought you could trust above all else didn't trust you enough to tell you who they were hanging out with.
Now looking at the way Sam and Jessica talked to each other I could tell how close they were. Maybe even closer than me and Sam. We hadn't been hanging out all that much these days, what with me taking on extra classes and studying. And we had different majors, which meant we would never have any classes together.
It was a sad truth to face, but I couldn't deny it now that it was glaring me right in the face.
After we finished lunch Jessica dropped us off at the house, she had plans for the rest of the day.
I walked into our bedroom and didn't say a word to Sam. I was too drained to talk about our friendship and it's future. I just sat down at my desk and studied for the rest of the day.
