“That’s right. With the way that you are, there’s no way you could survive on your own with another mission.” Frey said.
“What? WAIT YOU MEAN I HAVE TO GO ON MORE MISSIONS WITH YOU GUYS AGAIN?!” Saul yelled.
“You know you need to work on that yelling of yours. And yes, you do.” Frey responded while he massaging his ears.
“Wasn’t yesterday bad enough?” Saul asked again.
“Like I said. with the way you are now, you’ll be dead meat for the wolves the chew if you wander off on your own. Cause we are not going to protect you all the time. But that doesn’t mean you’ll have to do it on the fly. Starting tomorrow, we’re going to train under me.” He said.
“Like what exactly?” Saul asked.
“You’ll see what I mean soon. I still need to get a few more equipments before we start. But first.” he said. Frey then picked up his chopsticks again and quickly ate everything on his plate and Saul’s plate. “Gochisosama” Frey said as he goes back upstairs.
“That… was my breakfast,” Saul said and sighed. He then went to cook himself another batch of breakfast for himself. Frey went upstairs and used the bathroom mirror to travel back to the demon realm. After traveling through the portal, Frey makes his way through the manor to outside the front gates. Sara then saw him and followed.
“Hey Frey, where you heading?” She asked.
“Heading into town to pick up the stuff. Hopefully, Locket has most of them in town before he closes shop.” Frey said.
“What do you need?” Sara asked.
Frey then handed Sara a list of items. She inspects most of them then spoke up.
“Half of them we do have but the rest I think that locket might have them.” She said.
“Perfect! I’ll meet you back in a bit.” Frey said. He then runs out to the front and summons his horse then heads into town.
“Hmm. Hopefully, he can survive through our training.” Sara said to himself. Later that same day, Saul stepped out of the shower and laid on his bed.
“Training huh? I wonder how that’s going to turn out.” He said to himself.
He then begins to imagine how the training would be like. He first imagines it like a montage like from Rocky. Though that would be hilarious. But then he immediately remembers that he’s a demon and imagines the training extremely hellish as imagine being put immediate danger. The thought of it keeps him all night to the point he didn’t sleep at all. The next morning, Sara comes to Saul’s bedroom and knocks on his door.
“Yo! Saul you up yet! Frey’s all set up!” She said. she then got impatient and kicks the door open. She then saw Saul on the bed with his eyes fully red as he mutters to himself.
“Good god what the fuck happened to you?” She asked.
“not gonna survive… not gonna survive…” he mutters. Sara sighed and begins to drag him to the bathroom. She turns on the sinks until it was full of water. And before she dunks his head into it, she puts on a pair of headphones. Then she dunks his head into the sink for a few seconds.
“AAAHHH MAN OVERBOARD! MAN OVERBOARD!!!” Saul shouted as he got out.
“Why didn’t I bought these sooner?” Sara said to herself.
“Uugghhh, what’s with the wet wake-up call?” Saul asked.
“Didn’t Frey told you that you and he were gonna train today?” She asked.
“Oh.. right.” He said.
“Alright come on. I’ll take you to him.” She said.
“At least let me change first.” He said.
He then goes back to his room and puts on random clothing he picked from his closet. Afterward, Saul followed Sara through the portal in his bathroom mirror. After crossing the portal, Sara escorted Saul to a courtyard outside of the manor. Frey was waiting at the center of the courtyard holding a rolled carpet with him. However, not knowing them, the other members are watching from above from the manor’s second-floor window.
“Morning kiddo! So, tell me, you ready?” Frey asked.
“Yeah but, you didn’t exactly specify of what type of training we’re going to do.” Saul implied. Frey then smirked and tosses the carpet as it rolls out to reveal that it was holding an assortment of weapons. Swords, lances, maces, brace knuckles, axes, and halberts. Saul picked up a sword and took a feel of it and it was a real sword.
“Pick your poison and we’ll get started!” Frey Shouted.
“Wait we’re gonna try with real weapons!?” Saul shouted back.
“Yup. But don’t worry I’ll be going easy on you kiddo. Now hurry up and pick a weapon!” Frey shouted.
Saul then looked back at the weapons laid out before him and the sword he picked up. It may be a bit old fashion but he chooses to go with a board sword and picks up its scabbard. Meanwhile, the other members were chattering among themselves.
“So how long you think the kid will last?”
“At best with Frey? 30 pieces for a minute.”
“60 if the kid can manage five minutes.”
“You’re on bro. Yo Xin, you want in on this bet?” one of them shouted to a girl wearing a red and black yukata sitting at another window looking at the courtyard. She slowly sips some tea.
“Not interested.” She said.
“Well, suit yourself.” One of the members said.
Saul then enters at the center of the courtyard as Sara sits on the sideline sipping some tea. Frey pulls out his sword which was a long katana. But then he stabs the sword on the ground and uses the scabbard instead.
“Well come at me kiddo.” Frey shouted.
Saul then two hands the sword and changes right at him. Frey does nothing as he’s letting himself open for attack. Saul questioned it but still attack but Frey blocks the attacks and knocks Saul’s sword. Then he whacks Saul’s legs as he fell.
“Again.” Frey said. Saul got back up and picked up his sword. Again, he wields the sword and attacks Frey. And again and Frey knocks him away and kicks him into the outer wall of the manor.
“Again.” Frey said.
“it’s hard to keep up with someone like you-"
"Again!” Frey said furiously. Saul tries to get back up but his legs suddenly felt like jelly.
“What’s wrong?” Frey asked.
“I-it’s nothing.”
Saul lied to him and got up barely keeping himself together. And again he tries to attack Frey but with one hit, Frey knocks Saul across the courtyard. Frey then jumped high and attacks Saul from above. Saul sees him and rolls out of the way to dodge Frey. Frey then slams into the ground making a crater. Saul runs for the carpet of weapons and picks up a shield and wields on his left arm. He turns back and blocks Frey’s attack. But the force of his attack still knocked him back into the wall again. Saul ignored the pain and runs towards Frey. He lunges his sword against Frey and swings uncontrollably thinking at least he could land one hit. But no avail, Frey keeps blocking his attacks and dodging. All while Saul and Frey were sparring with each other, the other members were somewhat impressed that the new kid was lasting a bit longer with Frey but they knew it’s not going to last for too long. As the sparring continues, Saul sees an opportunity to attack while Frey does nothing. Within moments, Saul believed he landed a hit on him but no. He sees that Frey caught the sword using only two fingers. Stun and speechless, Saul was baffled of how he did it.
“You got guts kids I’ll admit that. But not enough to survive on the battlefield.” Frey said.
With one kick, Saul was sent fly across the courtyard, through the outer wall of the manor and slams into a tree. Saul was craved into the tree and barely is keeping himself awake but he could barely do it when he’s catching his breath. He looks down and sees a foot-shaped print on his chest. He tries to get out but then he felt something poking out of his body. Slowly, he reaches for his right ab and sees a rib bone poking out of place. Moving upward he feels more of his ribs broken out of place. Even one of them feels too close to the lungs. He then looks up and sees Frey coming towards him. Saul struggles to get out of the tree but having a broke rib cage is proving difficult then he thought. The contract mark then reacts as it begins to heal him. Slowly the rib bones move back in place. The numbers climb down from 13 and stop at 6. Saul then tries to pull himself out of the tree, but Frey pins him by shoving his arm next to him. Saul felt extreme fear down his spine.
“That’s merely a taste of what I can do. If you’re serious about this training than show me. Otherwise, I’ll kill you right here and now.” Frey whispers to Saul in his ear. Saul snaps out of it and kicks Frey back.
“I won’t die here. Not here! Not today!” Saul yells as he climbs out of him shaped carved into the tree.
The other members watching were a bit surprised yet curious about Saul’s progress. “now this is getting interesting.” One member said.
“if I’m going to be a member of this group than I can’t give up now! I’LL PROVE MY LOYALTY IF IT's THE LAST THING I DO!!!” Saul yells out.
Frey then smirks as he puts his left arm behind his back.
“Then show me what you got kiddo!” he yells out. Saul then charges and swings wildly as Frey blocks all of his attacks while motivating him.
“You’re going to have to do better than that kid! Come on!” he yells. Saul then double hands the sword as the hits were hitting harder and faster. With one more swing Saul knocks Frey’s scabbard out of his hand. Frey was a bit astonish and decides to let Saul have at least one hit. Saul swipes downward and hits Frey’s head. Exhausted, Saul could barely keep himself up. He sees that he manage to finally get one hit.
“I’m glad that you’re showing dedication to be a member kid.” Frey then stepped back as the sword has now a dent where his head was at. Shock, he surprised that the sword didn’t do anything to Frey.
“But, you still got a long way to go. Close but no cigar.” He said. He then gestures his hand near his blade and flicks it. The blade then begins to vibrate with a soft tone then it vibrates intensely as the blade shatters like glass.
Dumbfounded and tasted defeat, Saul fell to the ground.
“I… I failed.. didn’t I?” he asked as he was out of breath.
“Nope. You’re just sloppy. Now drink up!” he said as he shoves a bottle down on Saul’s mouth. Too tired to know what it is Saul gulps down the liquid that was in the bottle and chugs down until it was empty.
“Feeling better now?” Frey asked. Saul sighed a bit but then realized something. His pain is gone. Quickly, he checked around his body and sees that his ribs are back in place. The bruises are now fading away and he could stand up again.
“I …I do actually. What was that bottle?” he asked.
“Healing potion conjured by our team’s witch doctor. Might not have the best taste but it does just done when it comes to healing. So, ready to go another round?” he asked.
“Again?”Saul complained
“Yes. What you thought a few minutes of me beating the shit out of you would make you a better fight in that span?”
“Not really but I’m already beat for the day and it’s only the morning.”
“You’ll get there.” Frey then helps him back and gives Saul another sword as they begin training again.
“I gotta say, I thought the kids would kick the bucket by now. Now I can see why Sara and Frey are interested in him.” One of the members said.
“What about you Kam? Any interests at all?” another member asks.
“eehhh not much go off, Jax. But if the newbie improves then maybe.” Kam said.
“Whatever you say bro.” Jax replied.
8 hours late, Frey carries Saul back home and lays him down on his bed.
“Sleep tight kiddo. That was lightweight training. Tomorrow we’ll go for something a little more serious. Goodnight kid.” Frey said as he leaves the room. All while Saul was panting on the bed and says to himself.
“How ...is this… light?”
