Neveah eyed the already half-smoked joint, her guts twisted and turned. She didn’t want to do it, but when she looked at Quinn’s red glossy eyes even through her high, she still could feel her icy gaze looking right through her. She wanted to prove herself, she wanted to show Quinn she was no baby. Quinn smirked knowing it was a win-win for her.
Neveah looked to Harley who was also eyeing her, almost begging her with her eyes to do it. She swallowed a lump in her throat and took the joint.
“Come on, just take a big breath, not that hard.” Quinn urged her.
She sighed and did as she was told, taking in a big drag. She coughed as the smoke filled her lungs.
“Atta girl. See? Not so bad.” Quinn patted her on the shoulder.
Neveah grimaced at the joint before taking another drag.
“I didn’t even see your car outside.” Neveah changed the subject, turning to Quinn who took the joint from her and took a drag.
“I rode my motorcycle here, it’s parked on the side.”
“You have a motorcycle?”
“That’s what I said.” Harley giggled taking a drag.
“Among other things, but yes, I like to drive it around when it’s just me.”
“Must be nice being rich,” Neveah commented.
“All the money in the world can’t buy what I want.” Quinn laid on the bed.
“What’s that?” Neveah sat next to her.
“Is this about your loneliness?” Harley asked.
“You're lonely?” Neveah smirked.
“Shut the hell up. You both have a family, people to come home to. Who the hell do I got?”
The music stopped as the playlist ran out. The room was silent.
“I just wish life would hurry up and take me too you know?” Quinn said.
Harley and Neveah shared an alarmed look.
“Quinn, no. You have us, we are your friends.” Harley kneeled down next to her.
“Friends who think I killed someone. Not really good friends.”
“No one thinks you killed anyone. Fuck those rumors.” Harley said.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” She smiled.
“Maybe if we found the real killer we could shut those rumors up,” Neveah suggested.
“What do you mean?” Harley asked.
“Well, Stratus suggested we look into the murder, see if we can find some clues. Like a real-life scooby doo gang.”
“That’s a bad idea.” Quinn sat up.
“Why?”
“We might attract the wrong attention. Too dangerous.”
“She sort of has a point,” Harley said.
“Now who are the ones who are being uptight?”
“We are not---”
“Put up or shut up.” Neveah shot back at her.
Quinn smirked at her. She loved a challenge.
“Alright then, let's do it. Let’s find a killer.” She said.
“Uh hello! I wanna live!” Harley said.
“Well there are five of us and only one of them, we just have to stick together.”
“Still.” Harley pouted.
Quinn got up and put on a new playlist. Then she grabbed Harley’s hat off the floor and slapped it back on her head before sitting back down on the bed.
“Shotgun me, baby.” Quinn wiggled her eyebrows at Harley.
Neveah watched as Harley took a big drag before kissing Quinn and blowing the smoke into her mouth. The sight made her uncomfortable.
“What?” Quinn laughed seeing Neveah’s face.
“You shouldn’t kiss someone just for fun.”
“Says who? Do what makes you feel good.” Quinn crawled over to her.
“W-what are you doing?” she backed up.
“Relax, let the high kick in. Stop fighting it. It’s just kissing.” Quinn pressed her lips softly onto Neveah’s.
Harley laughed at Neveah’s reaction. Her eyes got big and she made a face of disgust.
Quinn shoved her down onto the bed and crawled on top of her.
“Stop it, I’m not gay.”
“I never said you were.” She leaned down and kissed her again.
Neveah forced herself to relax, although she was peeved that her first kiss was stolen by Quinn. She closed her eyes and leaned into the kiss just as Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics came on. Despite not being gay, and being mad at Quinn for defiling her, she found herself enjoying the kisses.
“Can’t tell on me if you did it too.” Harley giggled.
When Quinn pulled back, she had a dark unreadable expression on her face. It put Neveah off, so much so that she pushed Quinn away as she leaned down for more kisses.
“No more,” Neveah said.
Quinn rolled her eyes but didn’t fight her.
The three girls sat around and got high, talking about random things, sometimes talking about serious things. But by the time 7 o’clock had rolled around Neveah couldn’t remember half the things they talked about.
Harley had her bedroom window open, airing out her room. They just ate pizza that Quinn ordered, satisfying their munchies. They were on their second joint. Harley needed it being as her body needed more to get high since she was used to it. Still, she didn’t want to get too high in case her mom got off early.
When nine o’clock had rolled around all three girls were mostly normal again.
“Damn it.” Neveah groaned looking at three unread messages from her mom. She had totally forgotten.
“I can take you home on my bike if you want.” Quinn offered.
“You guys be safe, there’s a killer remember.”
“Yeah, yeah, I’d like to see the bastard mess with me,” Quinn smirked.
“Just take me home.” Neveah grabbed her school bag.
“Feeling tired is normal, just sleep it off. You’ll probably get the best sleep of your life tonight.” Harley said.
“You better be right, oh and if either of you says a word of this to the other girls I’m telling everyone you two made out.”
“We made out too.” Quinn points out.
“Don’t test me.” Neveah barked walking out.
Harley and Quinn shared a look and laughed. Quinn grabbed Harley’s weed stash and stuck it in her bag before waving bye and walking out.
Quinn slapped her helmet on which covered her whole face and made her look like a badass before revving her bike up. Neveah sat behind her and wrapped her arms around Quinn’s waist. Then Quinn pulled out and rode one block to Neveah’s house.
“I would use that body spray if I was you,” Quinn said to her.
Neveah quickly pulled it out of her bag and sprayed herself down before walking inside. Quinn waved bye before speeding off.
“Neveah Maurine Walker!”
Neveah cringed to herself and sighed, hoping her eyes weren’t too red she walked over to her mom.
“I’m sorry momma I got caught up with stuff. It won’t happen again.”
“Emm hmm.” Her mom eyed her.
Neveah quickly went to her room and shut the door. She sighed in relief until,
“Are you high?” Her older sister said.
“No.” Neveah lied.
“Holy shit you are!” she got up and grabbed Neveah’s face.
“Shut up! Don’t tell mom.” Neveah hissed.
“Um, you got black lipstick all over your face.”
Neveah felt her cheeks flush.
‘Damn her!’ Neveah thought to herself.
Her sister swiped her thumb over the corner of Neveah’s mouth removing old pizza sauce and the traces of the lipstick.
“Oh uh, Quinn let me borrow her lipstick, for fun. We were just horsing around. Must have got everywhere when I ate pizza.” She lied.
“Emm hmm.” Her sister eyed her.
“Don’t tell mom.”
“I’m impressed I didn’t think they could ever taint you. You are always so uptight.” Her sister sat on her bed.
“Let’s just say Quinn can be convincing.” She sighed and sat on her own bed.
“So I’ve heard. Maybe I underestimated her.”
“It was a one-time thing, never again.” Neveah yawned.
“Sure, sure. We’ll see about that.”
Neveah laid down and rolled over, quickly falling asleep.
