And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bir
That kept so many warm—
~Emily Dickinson
The scenes out the window blurred by, the silence in the van was quickly replaced by squealing tires as the driver hit the brakes, the vehicle in front of them had suddenly stopped without warning when some drunks stumbled across the road.
“What the hell?” Ki-Hyun was just about to scold the driver when Min-Ho slammed down hard on Ki-Hyun’s shoulders holding firm.
“Chill!” was all he said before leaning back, throwing his head back, glaring out the window a figure stood silently hunched over the railing of the bridge just up ahead. As the van started moving again Min-Ho could not take his eyes of the mystery. The streets light aligned just right to light her up with a golden halo… “It’s her…”
“Who?” Jin-Woo leaned over trying to see for himself.
“No one important, but I’m sure it’s her.” Min-Ho paused for second as the van passed the girl by and he saw her wipe her eyes with her sleeves.
“She’s...” Min-Ho was silent.
“Come on! Who was it?” Jin-Woo begged for an answer.
“I told you it’s no one.” Min-Ho said closing his eyes, exhausted.
At the hotel Min-Ho’s mind started turning a hundred-and-eighty degrees. What if something happened to her…? Needing to clear his head, he separated from the rest, explaining that he just needed some fresh air. After waiting outside for almost 20 minutes both Jin-Woo and Tae-Won came down to find him.
“You seem worried.” Tae-Won was blunt and to the point.
“Everyone’s waiting inside.” Jin-Woo flung his arm around Min-Ho’s neck pulling him down into a vice; a playful grin spread wide.
“Jin-Woo, go inside.”
“Awe come on! Why?”
“Just go inside, we’ll be up in a bit!” Tae-Won watched him go inside before giving his full attention to Min-Ho.
“Are you still upset that the mystery girl didn’t show?” Min-Ho gave no reply.
“Was it her that you saw beside the road.” A nod confirmed it.
“You should have said so; we could have stopped to give her lift.”
“I think she wants to be alone… She was crying…”
“All the more reason!” Tae-Won’s words struck a chord in Min-Ho.
“Why do you even like her when you haven’t even formally met and introduced yourselves to each other?”
“Whenever I see her it almost feels like she’s living in a different world. I tried to talk with her twice. Twice she I said hi and she just walked right pass me without even looking up… And she reminds me a bit of…”
“Min-Ho… I think… You should just forget about this girl, we’re leaving soon anyways! By the way how’s the new song coming along?” Tae-Won tried to change the conversation to get Min-Ho thoughts away from the mysterious girl that not even he’s seen yet.
“It’s finished plus two more.”
“Can’t wait to hear it; now let’s go in!” The two headed in, glancing over his shoulder one final time he saw a white dress, and instantly felt relieve wash over him; without hesitation he headed up ready to retire for the night… which would prove futile as the rest of the group started celebrating the successful end to their first tour in Europe.
Morning came and went; by the time the guys all woke up it was almost midday and still groggy from partying the night away. Hungover and hungry, they got up and freshened up before ordering in-room.
“While we wait why don’t you let us hear that new song of ours?” Tae-Won got everyone’s attention at the mention that Min-Ho finished the song for their next album.
“I’ll play it once Jong-In’s awake.” Immediately Jin-Woo tackled Jong-In and dragged him to his feet.
“He’s here, how awake I’m not sure.” Ki-Hyun sarcastically commented.
“Fine.” Min-Ho got out his guitar and started playing a gentle tune, a bit unlike their other songs that had a good beat to it, this sounded more like a serenade. Everyone knew who it was written for when he started singing, reminiscing about time spent with Min-Seo, Min-Ho’s twin sister, silently engraved itself in their hearts.
