The desk was covered in thread, stuffing and metallic joints. The stereo was blasting rock covers of the most popular songs out there. Delilah smiled as she finished removing the old stuffing from the abandon toy lamb she found out in the streets, waiting for some child to find it and show it love.
“I can’t believe someone would leave a sweet little Christmas lamb, like you, in the cold and wet? No matter, in a few minutes you will be reborn into my family of stuff animals.” Delilah said as she put the robotic joints in.
Around her was the army of stuff animals she had found and brought to life stood, waiting for the new member of their army. It was a long wait, each of them kept looking up and down as stuffing fell off the desk. She stood up and placed a on the table, she chanted a few words before purple light swirled around the toy. It stood up, shook out it’s fur then jumped down, ready to follow her around.
“Welcome little Cass, welcome to your new home!” She said with a smile.
The toys jumped around, welcoming the lamb into the group. The lamb jumped around and bowed. Their master giggle and danced around to the music playing on her stereo.
All was fine until the stereo disconnected to her phone and reconnected to something else. Delilah went to shut it off when some other music started to play, a song that was all too familiar to the eighteen year old.
“I wasn’t playing this song… What’s going on?” She asked.
Her speakers started to play an all too popular song for the goths and scene kids from the early 2000s, ‘This is Halloween’ only covered by Panic at the disco. She went to unplug her speakers, thinking it’ll stop. Yet it didn’t. It came from outside. She grabbed her wand and walked outside, the dolls that were built to attack followed behind.
The song changed to another popular one, ‘What is this’ only this time it was covered by Fall Out Boys. Snow started to fall inside, she looked around trying to find a source only to see none. The lights quickly went out then back on and two men were standing there in the halls, dressed head to toe as Jack Skellington, one in his normal suit and the other in the Santa Claus outfit. They had skull mask on their faces, covering only their eyes.
“What's this? What’s this? There’s color everywhere? What’s this? There's white things in the air! What's this? I can't believe my eyes! I must be dreaming, wake up, Jack, this isn't fair! What's this?” The normal Jack sang.
“What's this? What's this? There's something very wrong
What's this? There are people singing songs. What's this? The streets are lined with-” The Santa Jack sang as he spun around Delilah, she could see a ting of dirty blond hair under the Santa hat.
“Little creatures laughing. Everybody seems so happy! Have I possibly gone daffy? What is this? What's this?” Normal Jack sang as he ran off.
“There are children throwing snowballs, instead of throwing heads-” Santa Jack sang as he took snow in his hand and threw it around. Delilah could see black nail polish and tattoos on this one’s hands.
“They're busy building toys! And absolutely no one's dead. There's frost on every window! Oh, I can't believe my eyes, and in my bones I feel the warmth that's coming from inside!” Normal Jack sang, throwing one back
“Oh, look! What's this?” Delilah cut in. “They're hanging mistletoe, they kiss! Why that looks so unique, inspired! They're gathering around to hear a story, roasting chestnuts on a fire! What's this?”
Santa Jack took Delilah’s hand and they began to run around, going towards the Christmas tree in the middle of the hall. “What's this? In here, they've got a little tree, how queer! And who would ever think, And why?”
“They're covering it with tiny little things! They've got electric lights on strings! And there's a smile on everyone! So, now, correct me if I'm wrong. This looks like fun! This looks like fun! Oh, could it be I got my wish? What's this?” Normal Jack sang as Andrew and Grim just stood back and watched.
Grim looked at Andrew, wondering what was going on but the older man shrugged. He just knew this was something the tree would do from time to time.
“Oh my, what now? The children are asleep! But look, there's nothing underneath. No ghouls, no witches here to scream and scare them! Or ensnare them, only little cozy things, secure them in their dreamland… What’s this!” Delilah sang as they spun and danced to the kitchen while her army of stuff animals pretend to be children sleeping.
“The monsters are all missing!” Normal Jack sang.
“And the nightmares can't be found!” Santa Jack sang next.
“And in their place there seems to be good feeling all around!” Delilah sang.
“Instead of screams, I swear I can hear music in the air!” Santa Jack said as they stopped in the kitchen, where Joseph Quinn was standing with a freshly made cake and pies.
“The smell of cakes and pies, are absolutely everywhere!” Normal Jack sang as he pointed to the food on the counter.
“The sights, the sounds! They're everywhere and all around! I've never felt this good before! This empty place inside of me has been filling up! I simply cannot get enough!” Delilah sang.
“I want it, oh, I want it! Oh, I want it for my own! I've got to know, I've got to know! What is this place that I have found? What is this?” Santa Jack sang, all three stopping in place.
“Uh my house, I invited you idiots here to make Delilah happy. Now why are you two dancing and casting snowing spells in my hallways?” Joseph Quinn asked as he put a tray of cookies in the oven.
Normal Jack took off his mask and it was revealed to be Ian. “Oh c’mon you old demon, we’re having fun!” he joked.
“It’s something we do every year since knowing each other. We all have a love for Nightmare before Christmas. We all tend to reenact one part from the movie.” The Santa Jack said as he took off his hat and mask. It was Thomas, her older brother.
Delilah smile grew even bigger when she saw them. Her best friend and her big brother, dressed as two different versions of Jack. She let out a laugh when she realized what was going on. Joseph Quinn, the man who had been caring for her since she was fourteen, had allowed the two to come for Christmas eve and possibly stay until a few days after.
Delilah ran over and hugged the demonic being, happy that he granted her wish to see them just once. She kept repeating thank you until Joseph pulled her off.
“Okay okay, settle down. Why don’t you show them to their rooms. I have no idea where Andrew and Grim are at.” Joseph said.
Delilah nodded and took the two’s hands and quickly found Andrew and Grim standing there still, looking at them. Delilah ran and hugged them, happy to see the two once more. She thanked the two for agreeing to let them do this silly thing they use to do when living close to one another.
“So this is normal?” Grim asked.
“Yes, to us it’s very much normal.” Ian answered as they went to take their belongings to their rooms.
“We are so watching Nightmare before Christmas, singalongs is a must!” Delilah declared.
“Then Home alone 1 and 2, followed by it’s a wonderful life!” Thomas added.
“But first we’re gonna unpack and change!” Andrew said, carrying the bags.
