After a short while the elevator finally dinged as it reached the FLOOR 6. Vlalan walked out and began down a pure white hall. Elle hurried after him not wanting to get lost.
After walking about six yards, Vlalan turned to an electronic door that moved open and went through it. Elle followed and once the door closed he found himself standing in a small vertical elevator that carried him through what seemed to be a warehouse. When the elevator stopped another door opened and Vlalan went through it, Elle following rather quickly.
Next they climbed about two fleights of stairs and stopped at a huge black door.
Vlalan knocked on it a few times and the click sounded like something was being unlocked. Vlalan pushed the door open and walked into a dark room lit by computer and TV screens that seemed to be monitoring the whole building. He walked into the center of the room which was a huge table with a hologram displaying a bunch of chairs.
Elle followed Vlalan and stood a few feet behind him.
"Sir, I've brought the boy," Vlalan said.
A tall man dressed like the Pope, only in all black, came walking down from a short flight of stairs, his 6-foot-tall cherry wood walking stick making small clicks as he walked. "Why did you bring him here?" he asked in a very old and raspy voice.
"Because when he had Memento for a bit he couldn't feel either happy or sad thoughts, sir," Vlalan explained. "I request that we do a check on him with Memento and monitor his aura with the computers."
The man thought about it a second. "Very well." He turned to a table of computers and pressed a button. "Send in Nine-Nine-Two and Memento please."
"Yes sir," came a raspy female voice.
A tall red haired man came walking in from a door on the left and came down to the center of the room. "You called, Nine-Nine-One?"
"Yes. We're going to monitor this boy's aura when we give him Memento." the man explained. "Hook him up to the computers, Nine-Nine-Nine."
"Yes sir," Vlalan replied and took Elle's upper left arm and led him over to a chair and made him sit in it. He took out a few cords and attached them to suction cups and put on on Elle's forehead, one on each of his hands and lifted up Elle's shirt, resting the last one on Elle's belly button.
"What are they doing?" Elle whispered.
"We have the technology to monitor people's auras to make sure that they're on our side." Vlalan answered softly. "Up till now we've been using a program that mimics Memento's distinctive behaviors but now that we have it, we just have to hand it to you and your inner aura will appear on that hologram."
"It won't hurt will it?"
"Nah."
Vlalan stood up and nodded to the others, "He's all hooked up."
"Start the machine." Nine-Nine-One ordered to the redhaired man. Nine-Nine-Two saluted and pressed a button nearby him.
The hologram on the center tabled flickered off and was replaced with a green hologram of Elle's body dressed in a loose white shirt and slacks, bare feet, with some sort of metal curled around his wrists and ankles. After a few moments a small colored aura appeared around him.
"Purple," a woman's raspy voice said. The redhaired Nine-Nine-Two turned to a computer in the back.
"Nine-Nine-Three," he said. "Be sure to record all of this."
"Of course!" she snapped. "Now recording. We're ready."
Nine-Nine-One walked over to Elle and handed him Memento, it still hanging on it's chain. Elle took it cautiously and held it close to him.
The entire room filled with a bright white light.
"STOP!"
"STOP THE EXPERIMENT!!"
"TURN IT OFF!!"
"UNHOOK HIM NOW!!!"
A loud alarm started to sound.
