"Good morning sushine! How 'ya slept?"
"Dad, just... five minutes..."
"What are you saying? No more sleep, we already went into the forest and came back, this is definetely not the proper behaviour of a future knight Egan!"
"Da-wait, what?... we?"
"Yes, son, me and this little buddy. We understood each other pretty well, I think we might get along better than you and I already do, HAHAHA!"
"Sure". I gazed at the kid, I suddenly felt so awkward because I still didn't know how to call for him.
"Should I call him kid while I think about it?"
"We will be waiting for you outside, get ready for training".
"Hey... —I tried saying hello— emm —cough— well just give me a minute I'll be right there".
The kid looked back at me, I wasn't completely sure if what I saw was a smile, but I thought I might be better off thinking that it was.
I was asking myself how mindless I could get from this point on. Imagine what a terrible parent I would be if I didn't give a name to my own blood. So I tried thinking really hard during the rest of the day... during the training... the hunting... the recess... the dinner and even during my sleep... repeating the cycle almost for an entire week.
It was coming on pretty bad for my health. For the first day, I got distracted and barely scaped from falling off a cliff during my training, the second day, I almost got run over by the beast of two horns. The third day, my dad wagged his sword at me, and just for a millimeter I could slipped from the vicious hands of death, for the fourth and fifth day, I was sent over to do some errands because of my lacking concentration. But the thing is... I encountered the human beasts.
I was walking by the edge of the river San, like forever, collecting water for my tired mom. It was getting late and I didn't think it could get more problematic since I was alone.
How thoughtless...
"I should hurry up in finding a name for the kid. If he could speak this would be much more easier... I mean, 'course he can speak, but maybe... I don't know. He is pretty good when holding the sword... hmm, may I call him lil' Evan? Hahah, seriously though, I think it suits him".
—RUSTLE—
"Huh?"
—RUSTLE, RUSTLE—
"Oh, haha, I see, come out now lil Evan I know... it's..."
—RUSTLE—
"Hey I think I heard someone".
"Are you serious? There is no one is this dumb-f forest".
"Then, what about the child, how could he have survived huh?"
"Argh! Shut up man! Everything's your fault, we could have have been in Dezierya already if not for you. You lost the child!"
"Now, now, it was thanks to me that they didn't cut our heads off right away".
"YEAH THANK YOU MY GOOD LORD!"
The voices of two men where arguing over a certain malicious task that had been entrusted to them. I knew very well the meaning of each word that they were exchanging... as well as I knew the child from their conversation.
I hid under the river until they went away.
I was about to drown, or to die frozen in the river. But I couldn't care less about that, I survived after all. And nevermind my well being, I needed to tell my family about the upcoming problem.
My heart started beating like crazy... I needed to go home faster than them...
Maybe... he is still there?
