"Then, please describe what you were doing yesterday evening."
A guy my age was questioning me. I was 16 years old, so I guess he was too. I didn't even think a guy this age could work as a police officer.
There was another officer, this time a girl, older than him, who was walking around the house. Martha was sitting with me on the sofa.
"Sure. I got home pretty soon. I guess it was around 9. Then I cooked dinner and ate it while watching some TV shows where I starred."
"And then?"
"Around half-past eleven I went to sleep."
"And that's it?"
"Well, no. My mother called me around 4am, she told me she heard someone saying I was dead. We cleared up this misunderstanding and I went back to sleep until 7am or so, that was when Martha called me."
"I see. Then you rushed out to your garage and noticed that your car wasn't in there."
"Exactly."
"Can I ask you to show me your ID?"
"Sure." - I took it out of my bag.
He took out his phone and compared something to my ID.
"It's kind of burnt, but it clearly shows your face here."
He showed me what was on his screen: my burnt ID.
"Did you find this inside the car?"
"Yes, we did. We also have one more image for you."
He swiped the previous photo.
There she was. The other Vera.
"We took a couple of photos, and now we are analyzing the corpse. Do you know this person?"
"Of course...that's me."
"You don't have a sister, right?"
"No, I don't."
"How do you explain this, then?"
"I don't know. That's me, but.."
"...don't worry. We'll help you."
Suddenly, he froze for a second, his eyes looking at the left. He also started talking to himself.
"Can...I help you with something?"
It was like I interrupted his conversation with someone.
"No, you did plenty. We'll call you if there are news."
The girl and him quietly got outside. I was still sitting on the sofa.
"Hey, Vera. I think that going shopping might help you."
Martha was trying to cheer me up. I mean, until now I thought someone stole my car and had an accident. But that wasn't right. I was just confused, that's all.
"Yes, I think so too."
I kind of forgot due to the police officers questioning me, but I also had to choose which book to burn.
