I was drinking my coffee while reading the newspaper. I found it quite amusing.
“Excuse me sir.”
A boy approached me. Blonde hair and sweat on his forehead. I assume he was running until a minute ago. Dressed casually, nothing too fancy.
That's Raf.
“Yes?”
“Do you know if there's a bus stop nearby? I'd like to get to the station.”
I assume Leo is waiting for him. Today is the anniversary after all. But why would he ask me?
He lives nearby, so he should know how to get there...I don't think I should tell him. Even talking with him wasn't planned today. I might get into troubles.
“Sorry, I'm not from around here. I don't really know. You should try asking that miss over there.” - I pointed to the first girl I saw.
He thanked me anyways and went asking to that girl.
I got up and paid the bill, then picked up the phone.
“Hey, AlDon.”
“Hi, mister. What can I do for you?”
“Can you find this address for me?”
“No problem.”
As soon as I took the photo of the address written in a piece of paper, AlDon started the navigation.
“You should take the first on the left. There was an accident on the main road this early morning, and authorities are investigating right there as of now. It’s also a faster route when walking.”
“Well, thanks for the info.”
After around ten minutes I got there.
“You have arrived.”
“Thanks, AlDon.”
As I got in front of the apartment complex, I could only think about how lucky that kid is. He lives quite in a rich neighborhood, and I guess he lives totally carefree. I truly envy him.
I casually waited for someone to open the complex's main entrance door and went inside.
Then, I asked AlDon.
“Where do I go from here, next?”
“Take the elevator on the left and get to the fourth floor. His apartment is in front of the stairs.”
“I see. Please set off all the cameras in this complex.”
“Oh, and also cancel the most recent footage from the camera in the main entrance.”
“Roger that.”
AlDon did it. I could notice that the red light from the camera near the elevator wasn't blinking anymore.
I got to the fourth floor without problems.
Now comes the hardest part.
I rang the doorbell once.
But I couldn't hear anyone coming.
So I rang it once more.
Still nothing.
Then twice.
“Hello.”
A kid around 14 years old greets me. Brown hair, glasses. That's him.
“Hi. I was looking for Patricia. I guess she's your mother. I am her colleague.”
“She's not here. She should come back in half an hour, so if you'd like you can wait inside.”
“Really, thank you.”
“You're welcome.”
I didn't even get inside his home by force. That was really unexpected.
He let me sit down on the sofa near the entrance, while getting me a glass of water in the kitchen.
Then came back and gave it to me. I put in on the table.
I grabbed the gun and pointed on his forehead.
“I guess he was right.”
“What?”
“Someone told me I was going to die today. I wanted to see if it was true. I guess it is.”
“Who told you?”
“I'm not going to tell you. Just shoot.”
His words didn't match what he was truly thinking. I could see he was afraid by a mile. His hands were trembling, but he tried to hide them behind his back.
He's really a strange guy.
“Huh? Who is it?”
A fifth grader showed up.
“Who is it? Are you Marc's friend?”
Marc turned his head to him.
“Yes it is. We are playing. Please go in the kitchen.”
“Ok big brother!”
After he went away, I asked a question to Marc, just out of curiosity.
“Doesn't he have school today?”
I knew he had a little brother, but I couldn't understand why he was there. Maybe he was sick or something?
“He told me he was sick but it was a lie. He wanted to play at home.”
“I see.”
“Please hurry up before my mother comes.”
“Eh, I guess you don't fear death anymore. People like you could really help my team. But I guess you won't accept, right?”
“Exactly.”
“I see. Well then, see you at school.”
"...at school?"
A second before pulling the trigger, he let out all his fear. Even he is afraid of death. Maybe he's more afraid than most people.
After I shot him, some seconds passed.
I just closed my eyes.
I could hear the voice of his little brother less and less. Like I was sinking in the ocean.
I opened them. I was sleeping in my hotel's room.
I got up and looked out of the window. The sky was clear, and the sun was rising as always.
I prepared and got down the stairs to get breakfast.
