"Hey!, can you please explain to me where in the hell is my son? —said the woman—".
"Oh! Honey, you know how growing kids are, they just wander around all the time to explore wherever puberty takes them".
"So is he..."
" 'u know what? A bear ate him".
"WHAT?"
The door opened, and from there, a crying creature appeared in the arms of the other kid. It became a surprising scene for both of the parents that didn't know what was happening.
"What is this?"
"It's a kid, mom, not a thing".
"Well, of course I know it's just a child! Do you think I'm blind?"
"Egan, what were you thinking? Why did you bring this kid here? —said the father—".
"Well... I know it's not something to be proud of... but... mother, father... say hi... this is my son".
"Are you kidding me?!"
"Actually... I am, I just happened to find him in the forest and took him with me, isn't he adorable?".
"Man, son... you know we like kids and all, but, if you wanted to have a brother that badly you could just have talked to us... you know what I mean? I would gladly had... ouch!"
"Stop with the nonsense! Now, tell me where did you find that kid? We have to take it back!"
"Do you want me to return him?"
"That's right, you will return him!"
"Whyyy?"
"Wah-gh... Why 'why'? You just picked a random kid from Hera knows where, and now you expect me to take him in just like that? What about his parents?"
"I've told you, he just followed me here and I found him cute... can't we just adopt him?"
"Oh no, no no no..."
"Hey honey, calm down, maybe his parents are looking for him? Why don't we just take care of him until we find his parents?"
"Oh! Don't try to get away with this one... he-he's just..."
"Pleaaaaase?"
"Pleaaaaase?"
And so, the father and son pair started crying in sync. The little boy found the strange noise funny and his tears were wiped away. He smiled. However, it was not any normal smile, it was the kind of smile a three year-old would never be able to make unless put under such circumstances.
Just a painful kind of smile.
"W-well, if it's just for a while then it's fine".
She obviously noticed it, but even so, she chose to ignore it. Erase it away just like that.
"Close the windows that it's going to be a cold night. And after that, just come to have dinner".
"Yes ma'am!"
At that time, I seriously was planning on telling my parents the real purpose of my actions. I only wanted to protect the child. I only wanted to save a life. I only wanted to help someone. But... this time was different... and the moment I opened my mouth to give explanations... everything just drifted away like that...
I just thought... maybe... 'if I tell them the truth about the kidnappers... they will chase him out inmediately'...
That nigth I wasn't able to sleep. I spent most of my time anxious on bed, giving it a second thought. Maybe I was doing something really awful and I was going to regret it later on. Maybe I shouldn't have taken the kid with me. Maybe I should just tell my parents.
...Maybe I should take him back...
"Hmm, what're you doing kid? It's really late, do you want me to take you to make pee".
The kid suddenly woke up and came to find me. I had thought for sure that he hadn't noticed me weaking up, but it seemed likely that it was the opposite.
"Hm? Kid, 're you alright? What are you staring at?"
His eyes became completely blank, though they were glowing, it was as if his mind had gone wandered somewhere else.
He was looking outside the window, directly at the starry sky. And I was looking at his eyes. They were intensely shining, it was like watching the sun burning through a crystal.
So I asked him...
"Do you wanna go back to where I found you?"
And I waited...
"Do you want me to free yourself in the woods? Do you wanna run wild without anyone telling you what to do?"
And waited some more...
"Then... do you want to live with me? Here... "
An he nodded. I couldn't restrain myself from smiling at that. He chose to live... and that made me happy...
"Then, nice to meet you li'l buddy, I'm Evan... though my stupid father calls me 'Egan' most of the time...
hmmm...
I should give you a name..."
