“Shi, just land!”
There was no stopping her. Suddenly she had lifted high into the air, the broom jerking her higher and higher. At first she didn’t even realize the height because it happened so quickly, but when she saw Caleb so far below her it was hard not to panic. All control was lost and her broom just started lurching in different directions, almost as if it were trying to force her off.
“I can’t!” She clung to the broom for dear life, closing her eyes in a feeble attempt to escape. It didn’t help. The broom was diving down towards the ground, the air in her face forcing her to face her doom.
“Lift up! Shilo, you’re gonna eat it again if you don’t lift up!” Caleb ran after her in an attempt to stop her.
Thankfully she heard him and instinctively yanked the broom up, forcing it to change its direction. The bristles of her broom stroked the ground before shooting up toward the barrier of The Bubble, the quick moment causing Shilo to slide further and further back on the broom. Letting go was all she wanted to do, but at this height she knew it’d mean trouble for her legs. The fall didn’t look so appealing.
“Don’t you dare crash…!” She positioned herself firmly on her broom, tilting her body to the left in an attempt to change directions again. Back down she went. Yes! Control at last! She changed directions alright. Sadly it wasn’t exactly what she intended.
She was heading straight for Caleb.
“Caleb, out of the way!”
“No, you can do it! You can land!”
“You have way too much faith in me!”
There was no stopping her. And she was getting closer and closer to crashing right into Caleb. Come on, land! It was no use. Her control was completely shattered, but she wasn’t going to let Caleb get hurt, too.
She let go.
“You idiot…!” As the broom took off in another direction, crashing into some plants, Caleb ran after Shilo. Just before she hit the ground Caleb jumped after her, grabbing her at the waist and pulling her close to him before tumbling down. They skidded against the dirt, leaving a trail of dust and blades of grass as they landed.
Shilo coughed, some dirt getting pulled into her throat as she panted so heavily out of fear. Slowly she pulled herself away from Caleb’s grasp.
“Thanks…” As Shilo waved the cloud of dust from her face Caleb sat up, looking her over. He held her arm, then her leg, checking her bones and joints to make sure everything was in place. Once he was satisfied he let her go, his hand running through his hair. Dirt fell right into his face.
“Well… At least you landed.” His ear twitched slightly, causing him to turn towards what he heard. It was a door opening. Then closing. He let out a sigh, standing up and dusting his pants off with his hands.
“Your dad’s home. Let’s call it quits for the day, yeah?”
