I.P's
dear sweet intellectual property -
or why companys cant seem to care
about building on them any more
lets slather any mess in the skin of what fans love
you buy the brand visuals right?
no....its honestly that short an answer
every i.p is unique and loved for specific reasons
and have unique feels....
Star trek - exploration, tech is is a idolised all purpose maguffin,
human potential to over come alien threats with word or phaser
while keeping who humans are at the heart.....
and ideally human ships that dont look like
yeah we only had a set square to design series hero craft....
be who you are no matter what that is
and be part of humanity shining in the dark....
so why would u make generic action films with its skin
and a series focusing on one character that
isnt allowed to be human....
and other characters get one trait
one line intros?
and to answer the question my way kirk vs picard i choose sisko...
Fallout - oh the lsit of what bethesda doesnt understand
and no they get no credit for fallout 3 the base game is
made with the bones of far better writers and devs
that really understood what fallout is....bethesda trying to
make there own dlc content yeah u get 2 shooting gallerys...
a over used trope story of a miracle cure baby
with collect-athon elements and a lovecraft/jame bond mash up...
any way onto what fallout is....
a build up role playing game
start your a random girl or bloke in a blue jumpsuit
pushed out into the wasteland with a vague hand wave
to wards your main quest
how u get there?
up to you
so pick a playstyle
scavange
build your story
who your character is
and suffer the consequences...
yeah actual consequences
be a saint
get welcomed every where
discounts at shop and information is easy
be a devil
your lucky if your aint shot on sight
or if u can pay the shops inflated prices
and a touch in fallout 2 i miss
see your face every were
your a criminal hunted
ah two where i cut my teeth
the earn able traits
i never managed a run without being known
as a berserker and grave robber....
so why oh why would u make a game
ripping out the ability to make your story?
the chance to see your choices grow?
yes i miss skill checks and skill points
they showed how far you have come
getting a lil better in your chosen path
every time u level up....
why would u rip out choices?
consequences?
are they really so harsh a concept?
they are part of rpg games heart
there core
nah we want a reskined minecraft
with a dose of looter gameplay
all with a shiny fallout skin
the fumes are giving me a headache
now a repainted survival game
no story
quest givers
npcs with dialogue trees to explore
76 isnt fallout
and no the argument of its fun with friends holds no water
anything is fun
with "friends"
really anything is....
Diablo -
a recent topic and im not the biggest fan
i was more into the game manuals
they where made with love and care
loved the poetry especially....
but even i see what the series is
rpg with focus on management
gear, health pots, hot key sequences
gotta clear mobs in the most efficient way
all controlled with a keyboard and mouse
keys bound unique to every player
and large screens
gotta see diablo roar in hd
why put it on a mobile?
why make a mobile when
your fan base wants a full 4th game?
and why end your biggest show of the year with a
hyped diablo announcement
to show a cash grab
with a grin
you all have phones right?
give us cash
and maybe eventually we will give you what u want....
bad move blizzard....
conclusions -
yeah right, it seems so stupid
and simple a idea
you have a i.p that makes you money
has a relevant fanbase
why not make what gets you money?
why the oh visuals and references sell games really
so look this game was cheap to make you'll buy it right?
its pretty with wide audience appeal....
*rubbing my temples*
the wider audience doesn't exist
and milking i.p's for paint
will crush them to dust eventually
if your famous for something
always make some of what sells
and if you want to branch out....
keep the core golden
strong
to the strength of what people love
make new things natural growth
not just painted pieces.....
