I awoke feeling better then I had in a week. Ave was right I needed rest. I got up and put on my uniform and did my routine. I ate my food on the way to the bridge and I was ready to start my day. Or I should say sol. I made it to the bridge to see that HQ is asking to talk to us live vie video chat. I saw Ling-yu look at me and I nodded my head giving her permission to call them. Within second Maxwell fat face came into view. “Hey there captain June I glad everything is returning to normal for you, I know the repairs on the ship is slowing you down by a few days, but I know you will reach the red planet in no time, he said smiling at me. “Yes, it’s all going better up here now, we had to wake up some people in order to get thing fix faster but it happens. Most of the holes are sealed and the largest of them is over 75% sealed and when that is finish we can move at full speed.” I told him. He smiles and continue talking about that news on earth and how every country now what’s to crave out some of mars for themselves. “No,” I said interring Maxwell. He gave me a questioning look. “Mars is not some second earth, mars is a place where no countries exist and we are all one people, we are Japanese, Mexican or American, we are just now martins. If they want to crave up land then do it on earth not on mars, mars maybe free but you have people from different walks of life who came together to get this mission started not the other way around,” I told him.

He looked at me with a thoughtful look on his face. It was like he understood what I was talking about but at the same time he couldn’t just tell world leaders to piss off, but where he couldn’t I can. “Alright June I see your point, but I can’t tell that to them, you do,” he said with a smile and I just sigh. “I knew you were going to stay that just send up the time when you want it to go down and I’ll do it,” I said and cut the video feed. “Hey captain how are you going to tell Russia to fuck off,” ask one of my crew members. I look over to where the voice came from and saw this young black haired man with a Russian flag on his shoulder. “easy ‘fuck off’ and them say something like new planet new rules just because we are human doesn’t mean anything anymore because we are in uncharted territory and what not, I need to think of more but that some of it,” I told him.

He just laughs and said that is homeland will not that life but he went back to work. The other crew members around the bridge seem to have the same idea but some of them agreed with me. New planet new rules and some of them looked at me with awe in their eyes.

Then suddenly the alien signal came to life on our comms. Ling-yu started recording it and sending it back it earth and some more writing came with it. this seems to be a bit different from the first signal. It was calming yes but it felt like it spoke to me. I felt warmth from it. it was as if something was pulling me towards it with its sound. Then it stopped, and I felt the pull from it release me and I began to panic. I told everyone if they encounter that sound again to record and send it to earth. I left the bridge and went back to my room to understand what the hell was going on with me and that sound. The first time we heard it I was relaxed and calm and now I feel a pull towards it. this was beyond strange. Maybe I was losing it from being in the Leviathan with the same people with a few new faces but still. We needed to fix the last of the holes fast, so we can reach Mars fast.

I shook my head and refocus on the task at hand. I study anthology in college and was working towards my master’s degree before I was hand pick for this mission- I still don’t know what I was hand pick when I never enter in the first place- I started working on the writing that was sent with the signals. But it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There was nothing to it like on earth. However, one symbol repeated itself and I took note of that. I wanted to know more about it but someone was trying to call me and I answer them. “Captain Maxwell is calling and needs to see you,” I answer them and left my room.

I stepped into the bridge and I saw Maxwell’s face and he started talking. “so here the interview to tell people to fuck off and what not good look Captain June,” he said with a smile and I never in my life wanted to fight someone more I then him in this moment in time.

“Hi this is Jamie Reels from the ABC News, this is the first interview from the Leviathan since they launch three and a half month ago.” I look out to the screen and saw a lot of reporters. I really didn’t want to do this, but I had to. “This is the first contact with the crew since the accident that happens just little over a week ago and now acting captain June Hernandez will speak to us,” she said.

“Hello, my name is June Hernandez nice to see you all, yes I am now acting captain due to some ship malfunctions and miles Clint being injury. And before you ask yes, we are taking care of the injury and those still asleep I have my best working with them and for those who lost their lives I am truly sorry that happen, but we must move on to go where they wanted to go,” I said, and the room erupted with noise.

“Hey Captain, this is Kim from ABC news my question is what’s going to happen when Miles Clint wakes up before you get to Mars?” she asks.

“It’s simple, he becomes captain again unless he can’t perform his duties due to injury.”

“Hello, I am Maya from GMA we heard from Maxwell Davis that you said mars is not earth and will have different country colonies, is this true?” she asks me.

I took a moment to think of what I said to Maxwell before and how I will answer it now.

“Mars isn’t a second earth where we can carve out the pieces we want to have and make other people paid to go and visit. That is what this mission is about. This mission is about exploring the unknown and learning not colonizing everything we come across as we did in history. No this is about coming together as one people and learning. If you want to have land, then do it on earth. And if anyone doesn’t like it take it up with Maxwell Davis.” I said, and I looked away and saw my crew smiling with me and nodding in agreement.

“What if we don’t care what you say?” said someone with a thick accent.

“Ah I know this man, he is second for our president in Russia,” said Yuri.

I look at him and he spoke for me. “as my captain just said sir, mars aren’t another earth you can claim. We already did. The people going there already have and those who lost their lives as well. And if you need anything from Mars then you should not only ask our captain but out future leader when we land on Mars and its very first city Holies,” he said, and I look at him with bewilderment.

Then everyone started agreeing with him. I look at him if he lost his damn mind but since everyone was acting the fool I believe they all talked about this and agreed to have me as their leader.

A few hours later the interview was over, and I sat back in my chair ready to relax a bit when that signal came back, and I pulled into its sweet sound.
