From that moment on, my father, King Francis, wasted no resources in trying to find all available information in the royal archives about my newly found powers.
It proved to be a fruitless task considering it had been 500 years since the passing of King Zanthos, and people back then weren't really into writing the important things down.
The royal scribes took to writing down what King Zanthos did in his day sure, like,
King Zanthos stretches his whole body first thing, and then gets dressed with the help of his maids...
but no one wrote down anything that could be useful in helping me with my forming powers.
Figures.
Also, it didn't help that the royal archives had burned down 200 years ago by some freak accident, or at least that's what the royal records said.
The one paper that the researchers did find though, was the peace treaty between our Kingdom and the Eternal Night Kingdom.
The one that stated the end of my life basically.
Article V. The next descendant of the Sun Kingdom to have the power of the Sun must be tied by the bond of marriage to the heir of the Eternal Night Kingdom to ensure safety for both ruling Kingdoms.
When my father presented this treaty to me I had just learned how to read in the ancient tongue.
I looked at the paper in my hands and looked then looked to my father.
"Father, surely this cannot still hold. Ir's been over 500 years. Surely, they cannot think-"
"-Read the next clause."
Article VI. The clause above this one shall hold as long as each Kingdom adheres to the peace treaty. Should one side disregard these clauses it is just cause for declaration of war.
"My daughter, there is a reason why our Kingdom is able to flourish despite being a mortal land."
My father looked at me with downcast eyes, his soft brown gaze unable to meet mine.
"As per the peace treaty with those vampires they cannot attack us and thus have not attacked us for the past several centuries. This is why Cronia is a safe haven for mortals in our realm."
I didn't know what to say. At the age of 9 I had never thought of as to why, or how humans and vampires were able to exist side by side.
But I know understood that it had come with a price, and at a price only I could pay.
