“There she is, our new Student! Welcome to the team!”
The man, maybe thirty years old, with a receding hairline and a perfectly fitted pair of glasses tramples over the dirt towards us.
His Face is covered with a radiant smile and he puts an arm around Sarazeels shoulder when he arrives at our little group. Anyone could have sensed that wasn´t a good idea, but the man seems to be immune to Sarahs freezing glare.
“And this must be your demon! What a nice example of a male -”
The nice example suddenly and without hesitation grabs the man's arm, twists it and lets the poor scholar tumble to the ground.
I gasp slightly, while the man sits in the sand undecided, then pats of the dirt and slowly gets up.
Sarazeel glances over at me and sighs.
“Excuse me,”, he growls at the man who hesitantly picks up his glasses “My Master has instructed me to stay away from suspicious strangers.”
Wow. I rub my temples. He´s really using all he I ever said to him to do whatever he wants. Maybe I literally needed this class.
The adult doesn´t mind Sarahs reply and offers his hand to me instead.
“Guess we will have to discipline that little rascal together!”, he exclaims.
“You must be Kara.”
I shiver. The man seems innocent and well meaning, but his natural degrading of my demon suddenly sounds distasteful to me. I shake my head slightly. Why would I worry about Sarazeels feelings? For all I know he was only simulating his emotional responses based on what he recognized from his surroundings, nothing to get wound up about.
“Yes, I am.”, I reply and shake his hands.
“What´s your charming demon´s name?”
I hesitate.
“Sarah.”
“Oh, so it´s female?”
Sarazeel rolls his eyes in the background. He apparently has finally figured out that Sarah wasn´t the best of all nicknames.
“No, It´s not. I just gave him that name.”
I wink at Sarazeel who has slowly stepped over to my side again.
The older man frowns at that and inspects me suspiciously.
“Kara, I know you are new to the group, but we try to stay as serious as possible. I would like you to not address your demon in such a personal manner. That would be negative to his development.”
A shiver runs down my spine, and again I feel a piercing headache coming in.
"Sure.", I reply nonchalantly, even though I was not about to take that advice anymore.
He seems satisfied, turns around and gestures at us to follow him towards the group.
