“We're about to go down.” Grant sounds panicked, which is an honest testament to how dire the situation is. The controls are fighting him even as he tries to punch in several Captain override codes, twisting and corrupting them as they flash across the screen, sometimes even ignoring them as they are. His voice strengthens with effort, a skill he's learned from living with a Nevitian for several months. He takes several attempts at button mashing before he finds a dial that actually works, and luckily it's one he can properly work with. The crackle of static clues Grant in to the opened frequency, and especially so when a drawling tone pipes up.
“Sir. All systems failing. I have reserved power to environmental controls so we don't suffocate on our own oxygen-breathing by-products.”
“Fantastic, and blunt as always if I may say. Any chance we can return control to the main interface?”
A beat. “That'd take a miracle and a half, not to mention a few tweaks to the outer hull. It seems like the external damage from that chunk of debris was enough to knock out impulse and main control. Otherwise... no. We can't do anything.”
Grant stares at the approaching comet with deadly determination. “Then we all die.”
