I went to Appledore Island, Maine, for five weeks to study biology and work. While I was there, I witnessed the nesting gulls seemingly abandon everything and greet incoming thunderstorms head-on. I was told by another student that these flights were called "dread flights", and they were indeed anticipating the encroaching storm. I found it haunting in a way, so I decided to draw a comic about it.
